I need some advice please | ADHD Information

Hello everyone,

Anyone has problems with Adderall XR with Emotional Problems like crying for no odd reasons?

Well I'm 19 yrs old i have been on Concerta for almost 5 yrs now and my doctor switch me over to Adderall XR i'm take 60 mg in the morning and I'm feeling like i have more Anxitey and I'am very Emotional and I'm on Anit-depressant for my OCD and my Anxitey but the Lexapro is not working for the Anxitey part.. What should I do.. Because I'am doing so well with Adderall XR big time. I need some advice should I talk to my doctor about these kind of problems??

Yes, talk to your doctor about any changes.  There are many different medications and alternative treatments if you seek them out.

 

Absolutely talk to your doctor!! When things are where you aren't enjoying life then there's obviously something wrong.  Though I doubt it is your ADHD meds you should talk about the mix you are taking and whether or not a change is merited. 

Are you on therapy? I recommend to all with ADHD that meds alone aren't the way.  You should be talking to a psychiatrist/psychologist and getting life skills to help you move forward rather than ending up slipping further behind.

Also there are many many disorders that can come along with ADHD (comorbid) and one or more may be causing you the trouble.  Do talk to someone who knows about you and your problems!

 

Well my next appointment with him on May 25th 2006. I will tell him what going on with me with the Adderall XR. I have to talk with him. We have tryed Concerta on me it wasn't working really well my body at all. We have tryed Strattera that didn't help me at all. We are really running out of options for ADHD Medication for me. I just don't feel like my old happy self at all with the Adderall XR. I'm on Lexapro 40 mg and I was on Concerta 56 mg in the morning and in the afternoon with Concerta 36 mg and i was gaining alot of weight with Concerta and I was out growing Concerta big time. I'm hoping My doctor can do some thing like lower the dose of Adderall XR.

My daughter had a similar reaction to Adderall XR.  The doctor finally added Depakote, and this seemed to help.

You might just need to adjust the dose of Adderall. I don't know what your dose was for Concerta but Adderall is a stronger drug so you might need to start off on a lower dose. You sure it was the concerta never heard of someone gaining weight on stims. People gain weight all the time on anti-depressants though. My son had a simular reaction to Adderall XR.  It made him extremely emotional for no reason.  He would cry at the drop of a hat and this wasn't in his character.  We took him off it immediately and put him on Concerta.  The Concerta has not caused him any emotional side effects.  Talk to your doctor and let him know about this.  You may want to consider a change.
