Concerta question? | ADHD Information

The starting dose for concerta is 18 mgs.  This is considered to be a very low dosage for concerta.  I don't think you can compare the dosage for ritalin to concera.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Hi. I believe the initial dose of concerta is 18 mg, but I do not know how that compares to Ritalin LA.

Best wishes for your little cutie!
my child just came up to me today and told  me she wanted her med, when I asked why she responded again she likes swallowing the capsules.  I dug further to try to ask why like does it help you and no response only she wanted it.  She did great on the lower dose so I guess I am going to go to tops and pick it up and let her try it and 0bserve her.  The psychologist I am still waiting on a call back, he has my cell phone so while we are out playing and running around he can reach me later.  Thank you KOKO Hi Jillette,
It is a tough, personal decision to try meds. I know when my sons are sick, they are the best behaved kids in the world - it is funny in a way!

Did you know that Concerta is a form of Ritalin with a different delivery? That does not mean it will affect your daughter the same way, however. If you feel like waiting to try it, why don't you fill the script and wait a week or a few days to see if the quality of life for your daughter is still an issue. If you try it, 18 mg might be all she needs.

I am trying 54 mg. Concerta because it works for my niece, who is 15. She takes 72mg, the most her doc will prescribe, but she is older and much bigger. She has taken it for two years and really benefitted from it academically, socially, and emotionally. My son takes another form of ritalin, FocalinXR. He is 12.

Let us know how it goes either way!

I got a script for Concert yesterday for the 18MG and was told it was similar to the Ritalin.  The problem I am facing now is since she has been off the meds she has been happier, back to her happy go lucky self and playful what we have not seen since the change from 10-20 occured.  The 10MG Ritalin she was still herself and observing her the past 3 weeks has bothered me.  I will admit too she had a virus last week which some may have been coincidence.

I have not yet picked up the new script for I am nervous after seeing what happened with the 20MG.  It was changed due to the school reporting the 10 was not as effective.  I am nervous now to try another  med I did get comfortable with the Ritalin but always caughtous.  I read something today about concerta can be addictive when I thought these meds are not supposed to be?  Another reason for my avoidance and I feel bad bothering the doctors office a lot so I plan to bother the psychologist instead.  My  house has also been a battleground for my husband just wants her medicated to help her.  I want to help her too I love her and of course I am a concerned parent.  I have also argued with him over he himself has yet to get  himself diagnosed what is good for his child should be good for him too, another story.  Decisions decisions.  I may also look into natural remedies too in case.  I will let you know what I decide.  I did ask my child  how she felt for she is 6 and the response I got was "I like swallowing the capsules"  for she can but cannot tell me why.

The lowest dose of Concerta is 18 mg.  Further, when my son first started meds, the doctor did mention that Concerta was being prescribed in place of Rilatin.  The advantage to Concerta is it is taken once a day (in the morning) versus Ritalin being taken 3 times a day (ie, eliminated the need for meds to taken at school) Not sure if they are comparable as to how they work.

My daughter is currently on Ritalin LA 20 MG which seems to be to high of dose she was on the 10 but her teacher was reporting it was not as effective so it was moved up to 20.  Now 3 weeks later I have noticed good things as well as bad like she has lack of energy, things that used to make her happy do not, she is not eating even her favorite foods, and has appeared to be zombie like.  None of this occured until this week was fine up until now she is doing better socially and in school and getting her work done.

I heard Concerta is like Ritalin LA for I want an  extended one do they have a 15 MG since 20 is too high?  She is 6 years old

I forgot to add we were told to not give her anything until monday.
