My son does better on Adderall than he did on any of the Methyphendates..( he tried all of them focalin, concerta, ritalin)...the focalin is supposed to be easier on the appetitie because they took out an isomer...that is about all I know.
Some kids do better on the methyphendates and others do better on the Amphetamines...Both have side effectes.
How was the focalin working for you?
My son takes Focalin XR, also. He does MUCH better on the Focalin than he ever did on the Adderall. I think all children are different and all you can do is try it and find out if it does as well. Isn't it awful that INSURANCE is dictating what our children should be taking? Sad....If Focalin XR is working for your SS, is there any way you can have your prescribing physician write a letter of appeal to the insurance company based on medical need for the med? Sometimes this type of protest letter will result in overturning the original decision by the insurance company. I think it's worth a shot. Good luck!
I have a step son whos is taking Focalin XR. And We are finding out that its not covered by our insurance. I was wondering. Has anyone switched from FocalinXR to Adderall XR? And if so what was the difference? I have done a little research on it and all that I come up with is Focalin is a Methyphenidate, and Adderall is a Amphetamine. Whats the difference?
He's 7 taking 10mg. He is also Autistic If that helps
Deanna211200138823.4362615741joemom... The focalin is working great. Other than it gives him a slight temp. But nothing over 100. That happens right after I give it to him. And then it's gone after 2 hrs. And his appitite is down for the first 5 hours of taking it. Then he's back on track after that.

SmallMom..Well that's in the works. I had the pharmacy fax over a letter to him. He will need to contact my insurance and tell them why Clayton needs this kind of medication, and not one that that's on the Formulary. And if they say no. We will have to go to one of the drugs on their fomulary. What's messed up about that is, they change there fomulary list all the time. One month things can be covered. The next month not. And you don't know untill you go to the pharmacy and they say " Sorry but this medication is not covered anymore" I just think thats BullSh1t.
I now have my insurance send a auto updated fomulary list to my email. Just so I know whats going on with them. And as soon as they change any info that pertains to me. I can faz the list to his Dr. All we can do is go from there.
