LOL  i know how you feel.  i went all natural for about 6 months, i was doing the natural, dye free, no sugar. It didn't really work for us.  My ds was as hyper as he was with it and all it did do was drive me out of my mind keeping every thing natural.  but, i know alot of people that it has helped, and they say it is worth the extra effort.

I just did some research on the Feingold diet. Most of the info I found said that there was no proof that the diet worked, and that it may be harmful to children by cutting out essential nutrients that children need. It also said it could be harmful to the paret child relationship due to the fact that kids will probally eat things that they are not supposed to and then lie to the parents about it. Or they may feel like outcasts in school and with friends. I do know that I am going to continue to watch how much sugar Jade has and Cut out the red dye because I have seen a reaction to these things. I just don't think the Feingold diet would be practical for usYou don't have to do the Feingold strictly.... you can do a modified version like we did.  Actually, through an elimination diet we found out our son is allergic to dairy products.  That was a very helpful piece of information.  There are also blood tests that will test food sensitivities so you can pinpoint what to avoid.  I'd take a look at the Alternative to Meds section of this board before you dismiss it so quickly.  Many of us find diet modifications (along with other things) helpful.  I avoid dyes as much as possible for our son. Get a allergie test done also it helps the diet much easier as well. Each person is so different. Sensativity testing is different and will not show on allerie results. Also go and try Fish oil it helps calm our son a lot as well. Can be added to juices as well. There's plenty of info on diet.... you might start with searching the internet for "Feingold" -- there is another called the ADD diet.  Yellow dye is another that frequently will set kids off.  Plenty of info, as ogram said, on the section of this board entitled Alternatives to Medication.  Hope you'll join us.

red dye (food coloring) has been known to cause children AND adults to have hyperactivity.  My son never has a problem with it, he doesn't care for juices or candy, but my nephews have that hyper reaction too.  just cut out the red foods and drinks.  Even some orange drinks have the red dye in it.  you might be able to get more info on it if you go to the alt med board.  They know more about this stuff than i do.

I have noticed that when my little girl eats or drinks anything with red food dye in it she gets SUPER HYPER. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't know if this is common. Also does anyone know a good site where I can find info on what kind of diet she should be on?
