My x significant other is sueing me for rent, utilities, and other expences.
What are your thoughts on a significant other charging you rent to live in his home?

Are you permanently broken up? Seems reasonable. Might be more healthy places to pay rent and utilities though, if your ex is being a jerk.
Sounds like he's being a jerk to me. Did yall have an agreement when you moved in? I think that would have a lot to do with it. i watch alot of those court shows on t.v. and unless there was a written agreement ahead of time, the person suing for rent never wins those cases. you can't just expect to be paid just because you happen to breakup. there was no breach of contract.If you had been paying a certain amount toward rent/utilities and he can prove it and you skipped out on paying for what ever reason then yup, he can win. And especially if there is a lease involved. In this instance I think it is only fair.
If you never have contributed toward rent/utilities and only now since the breakup he is asking for it then he doesn't have a chance in h*ll. In this instance he is being a jerk.
Bring your bank statements to show you never paid him any certain amount if that is the case. If there are checks on your statement that don't show who it it to and you know it isn't to him go online and get copies (very easy to do). Good luck!
