Im having a hard time with her Doc. she doesnt want to change her meds so im trying to find one who will work with me, she takes 5mg of folclin in the am we leave the house at 7am so thats when she gets it, it should be a long lasting dose but by the time i pick them up at 5-530 she just melts... I think that she starts to come down around 2-3 but waits for me to let it all out. I really want to switch her but like i said the whole doc thing NEEDS to be changed, can hypersenstivity change a way the meds work?
on the way home from work you want nothing more than to be done for the day, but you still have to stop and get all 3 kids get them home, feed them, do home work, clean up and still get them to bed by 8.... your adhd kid starts the second you get in the car kicking, hitting, screaming the basic's. your non adhd kid gets mad cause big sis is going off, now the baby starts to cry because of all of this, you know that the first one started because shes now crashing from the meds. shes not due for the night med till diner. now what???What time is she crashing off the med? If it is early enough you might be able to add a dose of short acting med in the afternoon to help get her through the evening. I have been through that very thing with my son every day when he was on stimulants. I now have him off them and can finally have the drive home from school without the kicking/screaming/hitting etc. I hope you find what works for you, I know how stressful that can be and how you come to dread that time of day.Adding a short acting dose or changing the timing of other meds used is a common way of solving this problem. It also helped the problems that would come up with homework. I've been there, I'm a mom of three too. Is there any way you can adjust her dosing schedule? My son takes ritalin la and strattera in the morning and then strattera again at lunchtime. It helps him focus for the afternoon and evening. The makers of strattera say that it has a 5 hour half life even though they call it a continuous acting med.
