Please read: young man on ritalin | ADHD Information

Hi.  Long story short, I just started taking ritalin last Wed. the 19th.  I have a very simple question: is it noraml to get high initially.  The last thing I want to do is get addicted, but still, the Ritalin seems to work.  I'd like to know about the experiences of other people when they first began taking stimulants.

If anyone would like to ask me any questions regarding my history, i.e., depression, etc. that's fine.  What ever will  help you give me the best advice.

I got a buzz from it initially. Others will tell you if it gives you a buzz it indicates you are not adhd. Me and the two docs I've seen disagree. The shrink in fact found me a adhd poster child very quickly.

Now it is my theory that as no two brains are alike, no two brains react to drugs alike. Ritalin now has only a calming, focusing effect on me - the buzz isn't there anymore but I feel more motivated.

I miss that buzz actually but like smoking dope and drinking etc., I'm going without.
The buzz only lasts for a the first few days - for most people.  Your doc should have started you low and bumped you up slowly.  ADHDers generally feel relaxed and calm after they adjust for a few days.

I got an initial head rush and a "different" feeling in my head.  The overwhelming feeling was a HUGE sense of calmness... I was even talking quieter, LOL

Those feelings went away after 3 - 4 days. Sometimes I still fell the med, "kick in" and I also feel the "crash" but in between, I feel no different.

Most of the time I have to think back to see if I actually took my medicine, I cant tell the difference on or off meds.. except for I start to see the disorganization creep in.....
