Sounds to me like they tried to get out of evaluating her by blaming her issues on bad parenting.
Has your daughter had a private evaluation by a neuropsychologist? IMHO, that's the way to go. I personally wouldn't trust school "professionals" to make a dx that really should be made by a medical professional.
SmallMom38831.43625No, this was the first move I've made regarding her getting an evaluation. Do yourself and your daughter a favor and have her privately evaluated. Ask your pediatrician for a referral. Neuropsychs are frequently found at university and children's hospitals.Sounds like you need to find a school advocate (they are free). Call your state Dept. of Public Education and ask for the Special Education Advocate, tell them the situation, and they will put you in touch with the advocate in your neighborhood. That's a bunch of garbage (the school). I agree with Smallmom too. See a NeuroPsych and at least you'll be armed with ammunition. The schools HAVE to take outside sources into consideration.
Once we had a private eval. and an advocate our sluggish school district snapped to attention and we got every accomodation we wanted. In fact, the Special Ed Director said, "What do you want?" They were really afraid we'd take them to mediation. They knew they'd lose. Fight for your kid. Good luck.
Can relate I don't get why kids wait until told to do everything. Lists are as good as a person who follows it. Today hw loads are crazy amounts so young.
I herd from our sons teacher I can't help fix your childs behavior at home. They love to not help us at all but yet except vise versa. I say this is bull when our kids don't like doing hw. They don't get how this all plays into school/ hw as well. I hope our sons NP will be able to help us out. Our school I feel could only care about what happens there. My things is that some only care what works for their school staff. I know something happened with this teacher this year cause 5 kids failed practice state tests. Son told me that. She will not teach 4 th next year either he says. Tell ya something in regard to her. Thanks for your answers, I'll have to put a call in to her pediatrician. I will also try to do what they suggest, but having her do her homework without me sitting next to her is a difficult thing to do because I can hear her wasting time playing around with her papers rather than just getting it done and overwith. .IMac38945.5158101852Hello there Josie...
My son has similar things going on...with chores not being done, distraction from homework unless I am sitting right next to him, and the friends situation hits home too.
The school teacher first brought up the subject of ADHD, during Parent/Teacher conference. I then made an appointment with the pediatricain. The pediatrician gave me a referral to a neuropsychologist that was in the same hospital once we had vision and hearing tests done.
I would totally talk with your dx and find an advocate.
No that you are not alone and please keep posting with updates.
our school system, exactly! it costs, but u r better off having her evaluated privately......Geeeeeez
! I definitely would have her privately evaluated, preferably by a neuropsychologist, if you suspect ADHD, then I would take these results to an educational advocate and approach the school, again, with the private dx and the advocate in hand. i so need an advocate!
