Why my DD doing this, how can I stop it?

She used to hide in bathroom and spill detergent in toilet. I notice that when I have to buy another one in a wek again. Ask her why you are doing that - she said - DONT KNOW. It  repeats again and again, and if it is not detergent it is shampoo or tooth paste... I talked with her, begg her, punish with taking away PC, took her money to buy detergent again, and yesterday she done that again.

The only thing I could do is to hide everything but it wouldnt be solution, she would find something else to destroy. She is not agresive kid.

What to do? Does your kids do similar things?

jude does that as well, everything he can put his hands on goes in the bath,it is costing me a fortune.we decided to buy a locked cupboard as he sometimes put it on himself and it is not good for his eczema.i know it is not a solution but it keeps my sznity.we are involved in a behavioral change programme.hoping it will help.would you have this in bosnia? No there is not such, at least I dont know for any. But we are going to see psychiatrist next week, hope I ll get some more information.Does your son get an allowance? I ask because my daughter was playing with the shampoo, liquid soap, conditioner & such EVERY time she took a shower & I was spending a FORTUNE buying that stuff constantly. Finally, I just told her "If you waste this suff by playing with it, then YOU get to buy the replacement" ! Sure enough, she did & sure enough I made her buy it. After 2 times her having to buy the replacement, she stopped wasting & we havent had the problem since. You can't hide anything here also. This was another reason I switched to more natural cleaners. All three of my kids went through a period of doing what your dd is doing.  Providing them with safe household products and a variety of empty containers, they had a lot of fun mixing and pouring.  When they wasted shampoo, I would buy them a bottle for them to use for fun.  It was theirs and they could do with it what they wanted...pour it down the drain, mix whatever. It was theirs.  Surprisingly, they wasted very little.

Remember to label all the concoctions with ingredients.  I still use some of the cleaning solutions they mixed as household cleaners.
jfla238836.2712731482My daughter will do this with shampoo, if I don't remember to measure it out before her bath and put the bottle away.  She will dump about a quarter of a bottle in the bath water, even though she knows that this causes her problems with her eczema.  She also has a thing for household cleaners, and will get into these if she has a chance.[QUOTE=jfla2] When they wasted shampoo, I would buy them a bottle for them to use for fun.  It was theirs and they could do with it what they wanted...pour it down the drain, mix whatever. And she'd probably be thrilled with those mass-produced, mega-bottles of neon-coloured shampoo or bubble-bath that are also CHEAP. And smell like bubble-gum or strawberry or something! The stuff that probably wouldn't do your hair all that much good...

my daughter does that w/shampoo & dish detergent, not in the toilet....but she sort of 'plays' with it (wasting it!) & then i have to go out & buy more!  why do kids do strange things?Dont know, but it is easier now, for me to know that I m not alone.

Science camp is great idea and DD would be delightfull but dont think that I would find one it this stagnating country. But I think I could  find some -do at home things-.

It just seems that she cannt or want learn from her mistakes. It seems shes doing those thing without thinking about  consequences or she dont care about it. I m so confused.

For some reason your posts made me think of some of the "science camp" stuff that might be available to some of you (probably not in Bosnia)

In our area there have been after-school science clubs or recreation-centre programs where they focus on making various kinds of goo, slime, foaming substances, chemical reactions, etc. It is of course all safe and well supervised. I wonder if using something like that as a reward for not going thru your home supplies might work as an incentive? Or just making some of the stuff at home? I'm sure you could find lots online.

One of my son's very favourite memories was going to a birthday party where they made their own slime and that cornstarch concoction (liquid & runny until you squeeze some in your hands and it goes solid, then turns back to liquid once you relax your hand).

This may not work for any of your kids, but it just makes me wonder if they are just so curious about "cause and effect" things. My ADD son is totally into that sort of stuff. He's had "MarbleWorks" (where you build a 3-dimensional track, then watch where the marbles go)... and it was the only thing that would keep his attention at all, for hours. Now he wants to design and build waterslides when he grows up!
