My son is morbid! | ADHD Information
He once told me that he wanted to be evil & not liked, today he was protecting a dead slug from his sister stepping on it, i said "mikey, its already dead" he said "i know i want to protect it so it doesnt get squashed".......???? Where do they come from i wonder? Yikes! Does he often talk about blood and gore? Nightmares? Moodswings? I run an in-home day care center, and most of the preschool age boys tend to dwell on death, blood and gore in their conversations, particularly with each other. Any toy that remotely resembles a sword will be used for that, and the same with any toy that resembles a gun (I don't keep toy guns and swords for that reason). When I try to redirect them from this, the conversation and play will quickly revert back to this topic. I think that this is just normal behavior for boys in this age group. My son says that kinda stuff for attention, or as someone said, shock value. I try to pretend I never heard him, or just go huh. The less attention, the better. As long as he is not over board, threatening to kill someone or something of the like.KIds can only be kids. When I was a kid~preteen I used to tell my parents to go back so I can see the roadkill. GROSS!! I think I just did it for attention, no real reason behind it. I am a preschool teacher and half of the boys in my class talk like that. It doesnt make them morbid, it's just the shows they watch and society. Look at all the super hero cartoons~someones always bleeding. They try to cut open worms on the playgroung~even the girls. Their facinated and curious. My mother-in-law took my son on a walk when he didn't really feel like
it. He was 4 years old. She said, "Look there's a butterfly!" He said,
"I kill butterflies!" She just knew he was going to be something
horrible as he got older. He loves animals more than anything and is a
gentle soul.
He just didn't want to take that walk. Shock value.
I totally agree with Rhiannon. yes he was telling me today about how 'worms grow a head or a tale when some one chops end off, like that!'
& 'they dont die becoz they can grow another body!'mikmum38833.5051736111Maybe his said it because he feels like he's evil and not liked, so why bother trying.your son isn't morbid.... dillon will talk about cutting someone and all the blood that will come out... or he has told me that he is going to throw me out of the car and i will bleed .... now thats morbid..
Maybe I'm morbid too, or missing something, but I don't understand why you think it's morbid that he wanted to protect the slug from being squished? I also don't like to see things squished (except spiders
), alive or dead. If there was a dead slug on the drive way, and one of my kids went to step on it, I would tell them to leave it alone, just as I've done with other things, many times.
The evil and not liked statement is probably how he feels about himself, but not really what he wants to be. Kids don't know how to verbalize their feelings well. They come out in many different ways, sometimes strange ways.
I agree with the others, I don't think he is morbid.
