i hope she'll get over this, as she gets older......I just remembered that people with Tourette's Syndrome also tend to echo what they say. Maybe you should see a Neurologist. Under "Echolalia" you will see references to "autism" and "Tourettes." My son DID haev extensive speech therapy. He didn't so much repeat to repeat. He truly didn't understand "w" questions--"what" "why" "where" "when"--so he'd echo the word. Maybe your daughter has a different reason. Actually, bet a NeuroPsych could nail that too and also diagnose the autism--if she has it--and any LD's and set your mind at ease.laura does she get speech therapy? could this be helped with some instruction in pragmatics? ok question? my daughter is 8 & has aspergers......she talks way too much about build a bears & dogs....the problem she has is this, she'll ask me:"can we go to build a bear saturday?" & then she totally repeats (softly) the question she just asked? what is this? does she need therapy for it? kids in school have asked her why she does this?
Dylan does this, I'm sure this is part of his PDD.
When we went for our first visit with the neuropsych, the doctor asked him "How do you like school?" - Dylan's reply was "how do you like school?" Uhh, you're supposed to give an ANSWER
I don't know if there is a cure to this - I, myself, haven't seen this with Dylan at home, although the doctor there reported it to me, and the school has made mention of it, as well as the pdoc.
I know oldermom has a good bit of knowledge on Austim stuff, hopefully she can give you some insight.

It's called echolalia. My son used to do it too. I'm not sure what you do for it. He just stopped. My son also has obsessions he talks about ad nauseum. It's an autistic trait. When I would ask, "What's your name?" he would say, "Name" although he knew his name. OlderMom38833.365787037
