My dd when to Sylvan and it helped her.  She was behind almost 4yrs in reading.  She went 9 months for 4-6 hrs. a week to catch up.  It was the best thing we've done for her.  She's had A's and B's since then but I think there was some regression.  She's now in the 9th and is in an English efficiency class and next yr she'll take sophomore comp and english efficiency. She's doing very well and I'm very happy we decided to take her to Sylvan.

Anyone have any experience with Sylvan Learning Center?  My son is behind on reading since he has LD in reading comprehension.  He just hates to read!  I was thinking about sending him to Sylvan this summer...maybe than could help.  Before i spend the $, i wanted opinions.

Thanks!!!

My son goes to Sylvan for math tutoring because there's a dyslexic mathematician there to help him (my son is ADHD/dyslexic).   We've been happy with it, thus far.  My son's reading skills are ok but he could do with an upgrade in his comprehension. I'm sending him to an age-appropriate (ds is 13) speed reading course.  They not only teach speed, but also comprehension and absorption.  One thing the guy said was that when you can read as fast as your mind works, distraction is less of a problem.  I'll get the info and post it.  You may be near where they're giving one of these schools (0) or can find something like it.  It's 2 1/2 hrs a week with 1 hr of homework for five weeks.  Everyone I've talked to about it says it will be worth the money.  I'll post the info I have at home. We have been going to Sylvan for a year and it has help our 8 year old daughter a lot. I would definitely recommend them!I think you would be better off finding a tutor that specializes in LD.  I also sent my daughter to Sylvan in 3rd grade before she was diagnosed.  They did pull her back up in her math, however, before long, a year or so, she was behind again.  Just a thought

I saw this earlier in the year it is an online reading tutoring program based at a University...they use student teachers as the tutors and the price is quite reasonable...I think this might be worth looking into.
