Wake Up Alarm Help Needed | ADHD Information

OMG!!!  Another Wallace and Grommit fan!  I looooove Wallace and Grommit.  Have you seen the short films?  Fabulous!

Yeah, I'm hoping to get ds trained enough before college (also a "please, God!") where he can get up on his own, run his own bath, pick out his clothes, and fix his breakfast.  We have a very, very long way to go.  Unfortunately, I have a night owl ADHDer.

lillian38834.8155092593I hear you susieb.
My youngest son loves making gadget things, so I think I will enlist him on this project.  hmm..it might be a way for him to get back at his big brother

Sometimes I call the dog in too, but like you said that involves getting up too!
Surely there must be some fun threat you could make with a pulley system (for the blankets) and a Web-Cam on a timer, pointed straight at him in living colour!! Haha
Wait, you may want to look into the legalities of that first...

I have problems with my 12 year old too, but I'm always up before him. He's in a loft bed, so it's a mighty pain to crawl up there to poke at him. But the good news is ... his drum-kit and electronic keyboard are right under his loft-bed, so I can just start playing a really, really bad collection of sounds, bells, whistles, crashes, etc. that will usually do the trick.

PB

We are big Wallace and Grommit fans here too.  When I mentioned lifting the bed up to a vertical position earlier, I was imagining the wake up/dressing contraptions...the short films are the best!

I am looking for some suggestions regarding waking up my difficult to rouse 17 1/2 year old ds.  This has always been a problem but particularly this year when he needs to wake up at 5:30 am.  He can sleep with loud alarms/music blasting in his ear.  We have tried combinations of auto timed lights, music and a loud obnoxious clangy alarm clock.  Has anyone used a sonic boom alarm clock with light? bed vibrator w/alarm?  I would like him to wake up independently, because I don't need to get up that early and don't want to be responsible for waking him up.  I have thought of a pulley system to pull the covers off, a sprinkler system, and a pneumatic lift for one end of the bed to get him vertical.

Honestly though, any suggestions?

mommis,

unfortunately there is no bus to miss, but I like the bucket idea!

Once again, jfla2, I think you are rearing an older version of my son.  My husband and I were discussing this exact thing this morning--wondering how to teach our son to get out of bed on his own.  Soooo...I'll just keep coming up here to see what the suggestions are.  I don't have any ideas, anymore.

I also posted this question on the adult board hoping they might have some advice.  You may want to check that out too.  If we come up with anything, I'll let you know.

Is he on meds? I am and my kids swear they can't wake me up.

Hook up a pail of water to drop after 3 minutes of the alarm clock going off .  Hopefully the ice melted before it drops on him.

Sorry my son doesn't have this issue, but on occasion is late for the bus so owes me taxi money to drive him there...5 bucks please.  I havent' ever had to wake him up, he's always been an early riser.  If he sleeps past 9:30 a.m. on weekends I check him because I think something must be wrong.

Yes he has been on ritalin for years.  He doesn't have any difficulty going to sleep as he used to.  He has always been a heavy sleeper.  Even premed it seemed like he didn't move at all all night.  If he gets enough sleep  (10 hrs) then it is easier.

any suggestions?

jfla238834.540462963Hmm I just had a thought.   I wonder if I paid him...  I don't know how to get the money to disappear when the time limit is up without me getting up to do it.  Money on a timer, that drops into a slot  hmmm... jfla238834.5831597222Thanks for your thoughts...ds and I enjoyed reading this thread together
jfla238834.7761111111Hey Jfla2, have  you thought of getting the alarm that you can sing into with your voice lol, if you put that far enough away that he has to get out of bed to turn it off it might work. i don't know my 12 year old has a double alarm which he wakes to loud music every day, and is up at 5:35 good luck!!!

Don't think we're getting much help here, jfla2.

Have you seen Chicken Run?  What about Wallace and Grommit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit?  Wallace has some good ideas.  Of course, you need trap doors and buckets on a wheel and a toaster or two.  LOLLOL

I get my son up (7th grade) but next year I'm going to try to use an alarm.  I don't know if it will work.  The only thing I can count on to get him up is the black lab jumping on his bed and licking his face.  Of course, when he goes to college (please, God!) he won't have a dog to wake him up.  My problem is that I have to wake the dog up so I can't sleep late!
