...beaming
and smiling my beautiful son...watching him dance to a wonderful violin
cello duet he composed on music software providing a window into him of
a fast driven pace changing keys and becoming more slow and thoughtful
.
(that's because he's laying on his back spinning in an office chair)
sends the phone sliding 15ft across the floor toward me only to crash
into the ironing board
.. .hello? is your ear okay?
jfla238834.7817939815Wow that's beautiful lillian! thanks for sharing...what a great child...you are so lucky
A window into my home....lol . Honey, I keep the blinds SHUT.
O.K., my turn. Yesterday...
4:00. ds comes home, slides his book bag across the living room floor, kicks off his shoes and sees how high they can fly before landing on the floor, throws himself down on the couch.
"I'm tiiiiiiiired!" he complains.
"Did you have a good day?" I ask.
"Of course," he replies, rolling his eyes.
"Will you do me a favor and go across the street and buy some chicken broth for the dogs' food. I can't get them to eat this new food without chicken broth."
"Why do IIIIIIIIII have to go? I'm tiiiiiiiiired."
"Because I have some things I need to get done before we go to the Astros game. Come one, just go get me some broth."
"Give me ten bucks, and I'll think about it."
"I'm giving you two dollars for the broth, and a dollar to buy some candy."
"Nope. Ten bucks."
"Nope. Three."
"Oh, coooooome onnnnnnn. I want to buy something to eat at the restaurant next door. I'm huuuuuuuungy."
"Fine. You can buy something, but don't come back with a bunch of candy. You'll get plenty of junk at the ball game tonight."
He jumps up off the couch enthusiastically, "Cool. I promise," laughs and walks out the dooor.
Fifteen minutes later, he walks through the door holding a sack with the chicken broth and something else behind his back. "What did you buy? Did you go to the candy store?"
"Nope." He pulls a half dozen roses from behind his back. "I went to the flower store. I love you. Happy early Mother's Day."
What a kid! Now, I could tell you about his being such a pain in the butt that I made my husband sit between us at the ball game, but that would ruin the story
.
[QUOTE=jfla2] oldtimer-
ds started in the kitchen as a toddler helping out. By four he had a good sense of proportions and creative cooking.
I remember his "koo-a-luk-sha muffins" with bit of tangy clover added!
He may have been banished from the kitchen around age 6 due to the increased mess from clumsiness which I had probvlems tolerating.
Now I think he needs lessons from poodledoodles. Hmmm...distance learning?

Yes jfla, my son also had/has problems with spilling stuff. I think part of it has to do with not focusing and rushing through things, but now that he as been tested by the psyc at school and was found to have severe Visual Motor Integration problems, I had an " ah ha!" moment. I am a lot more tolerant of it as long as he is taking his time. I have had him cook things when he was younger, off and on, and he was very messy. He just didn't use to have much patience and didn't really pay attention. Now he is more interested and knows the time is fast approaching when he will have to know how to cook for himself. So I thought this was a good time to push a little harder to get him in there learning. He has a much more willing spirit now and I know it really pumped up his self esteem that he could do it. We are planning on him making dinner every Fri. and having a real family sit down dinner that he can be proud of.
Jfla, maybe if your son picked out something he especially liked he may want to make it?
poodledoodles38836.3211226852I'm very impressed, calzones from scratch! I've never made them. I'm sure that made him feel very good!
OUR SON IS WHERE EVER THE COOK IS. HE AND HIS SISTER CAN COOK MOST BREAKFAST ITEAMS. THOSE WITH SMALL KIDS HAVE THEM STAND NEXT TO THE OVEN INPLACE OF IT. i COOK MOST OVEN MEATS WITH OLIVE OIL AND SEASON ALL. FAMILY LOVES AND IT'S EASY TO MAKE. RN
GIVE EACH CHILD A ITEAM TO PUT TOGETHER FOR THE MEAL. THIS WAS HOW i LEARNED TO MAKE MEALS.
oldtimer38836.2298726852I should start this up again. Friday might be a good day to do it too because of less homework pressure. Last summer he wanted to be a pro at making calzones from scratch which he did. I'm glad you shared your story and I think I'll encourage this again soon. These are good suggestions. Thanks I will talk to him about it after AP exams.
Yum, it should be fun!

Well last week I had decided my almost 17 year old son needs to learn how to cook more than just frozen pizza. He had decided he wanted to make spaghetti. We set the lesson for today. I picked him up from school at noon. He had had a pretty good day. He took a math and a history test, and spent a couple of hours in graphic arts. On the way home I started talking about getting started right away on the spaghetti because we were cooking it in the Crockpot and it needed plenty of time to cook. Well right away he said I have stuff I want to do! I said we planned this way ahead of time. He just grumbled and didn't want to do it. I was disgusted and said fine I'll just do it myself. Let him eat frozen pizza and peanut butter and jelly!
Well, I guess his guilty conscience got to him and he decided he wanted to learn. He was a little afraid of burning himself, but did just fine. Long story short he made spaghetti, green beans, bread in the bread maker, and an apple pie(from the freezer
). We cleared all the crap off the kitchen table, so we could actually eat there, and he set the table right down to folding the paper napkin into some fancy shape! I lit a candle for the table. He was so proud of himself, and couldn't wait for my husband to get home so he could show off all he'd done. My husband and I both raved about how good it was, and of course my son was very happy. We decided we should do this every Friday. Next week he is making rice bowls.
poodledoodles38835.9053935185Terrific!! I'm coming to your house for dinner!
Okay I'm bursting with happiness today--got sons report card, which as soon as I got in the door he was quick to show me. He got a 77 percent average. I was so excited, these are the best marks I've ever seen, not that I didn't believe he could do it, with just a little effort. It paid off that I had a talk with his teachers just a month ago. They were concerned that he'd even pass, and he picked his grade up with next to no work-just handing in assignments more on time. He didn't even mind the hugs he was getting from me, for a change.
Okay ladies so you got flowers, that would have made me happy too, but this is what I've been waiting for.

He hasn't bitten another girl either.
