Embarrassing yeah, but still...
I pick up speach patterns from people real fast and don't realise I'm doing it
I have this facility too.. sometimes i get the... are you having a go at my accent..look!!!!!!!! or as happened once... the person became insulted and walked away...Ouch!!
It is hard for me.. sometimes not to do this accent mimic as per Glen's example...He.He.He.
There seems to be a 5 year old inside most ADHDers screaming to get out and have some fun....

Then how do you know you are picking up speach patterns if you don't know you are doing it???
Sorry, I just had to say that. I'll go stand in the corner now.
Resistance...it isn't really funny to inadvertantly make fun of someone but darn...that is FUNNY!!!!!

Resistance!! You'd love 'livin' in the south"! And If you pick up speech patterns as fast as LTC1, you could have a split personality too!I don't think I've done that - mimicking someone accidentally but boy I've had to bite my lip to prevent it. Sometimes when I hear someone who sounds overly smug though I will bring up my "Thurston Howell III" voice from "Gilligan's Island". I'm quite good at it. A person will be bragging up their money and possessions and I switch into it if there are people around them showing signs of growing impatient with all the greed. Sometimes I just can't help it.
Also if a person goes into a racist rant (there are still a few up here unfortunately) I'll put on a deep south "Ah don't lahk yer kind boway!" twang. I'll just go along with them but only if there are like-minded people to laugh with me. Nearly gotten smacked around a couple of times but dang it's just so hard to resist!
I can see how others may see it as insulting and I do try to behave. But I empathize and know it's tough when you have a streak of mischief as I think a lot of us truly do.
I agree, not funny done in a mean way but I assure you it was an accident. The dude DID say he hunts a lot and wuvs wabbit. I don't think he was insulted either, saw him today and talked a bit.A friend of mine has one of those eyes that look in the opposite direction than the other eye.
I didn't realise that I was little by little trying to get into the line of vision of her wayward eye until we'd almost done a complete circle.
Luckily she has a great sense of humour about it and found my unconscious action hilarious.
I felt awful. It was funny though
Resistance, I'd have loved to have seen the look on your face when you realised
