You could check out the alternative board.  There are lots of ideas there to help your daughter without meds.Talk with her prescribing doctor about this, but adderall is known to decrease children's appetite's more than the ritalin meds do. You can probably taper her off the meds this summer, then work back up to her med level by the time school starts. I am not planning on giving my son meds this summer, except when he is at camp, etc, doing things where he needs to focus and not be so impulsive.

Doctors usually totally support med vacations as long as the behavior of the child off meds doesn't cause herself and her family too much unhappiness/strife.
My 7 year old is on Adderall xr and she never eats! She hasn't grown much in 2 years and wears the same shoe size. Is it ok to take her off the meds for the summer in the hopes that she will gain some weight and grow a little? How will this affect her when she takes the med again in the fall?
