Tenex and Concerta | ADHD Information

Share

My son was diagnosed with ADHD combination two years ago.  He's now 9.  I was told that it was severe and at the extreme end of the spectrum by 3 specialists, so by the third one, I accepted the diagnosis.  He was first tried on Adderall, and my husband hated how my son was.  He said my son wasn't himself so we took him off and now have him on Concerta 57mg.  He's been on this for a year and he concentrates better at school, but is very shy on the med.  When he comes off the med, he's in a terribly mood, moody and angry, hates everything, can't fall asleep.  We've switched docs and his new doc placed him on Tenex 5mg to be taken at about 3 before the "witching hour".  Has anyone also taken this combination in this manner?  What has been your experience?  I'm so afraid of giving too much med.  Side effects and long-term affects scare me.  Thanks.

We have tried it the combination of both and he was having a very hard time falling asleep, also the rebound was bad.

My Ds is 5, and for the last 6months we have tried probably everything out there except for strattera,   the only one that has work for him is Metadate Cd 20mg.  some kids need 30mg.   he does very very well on it very smooth with no rebound like concerta.   It only lasts about 6 hours, for us that is ok, but sometimes when we need all day coverage we give him one pill at 7am and the other one at 1pm, no later than this because then he falls asleep until about 10pm.    I read about this medicine in another board and after trying so many I mentioned to the psych. and he said...sure lets give it a try and It WORKED !

He did not mentioned before because since is in the same family as Ritalin/concerta he thought that maybe it was going to have the same effects as the other ones,  but it worked, the delivery of the med. is different thru the day so it really makes a difference in him.

I hope this helps.   Ask the Doctor to give it a try, you don't have anything to loose and maybe it will work for your son too.  Give it a couple of days to figure out how many hours it works for him.  Try it on the weekend.

Good luck

Hi.  My son is also using Tenex....he is 6 years old and I think our Psy. said that his max dose is 4 mg for his age. We just upped his 1 1/2 mg in the morn and then again at 3 pm.  Today was his first day(he has been taking 1 mg each time for some time now) and it knocked him out by 7pm. I want a cooperative child not a drugged child. Just curious how it is working out for you and your child??  ThanksMy son is also going to be starting the Tenex and I'm afraid it's going to knock him out also. Any feedback is welcome.
