Ritalin - Why no replies??? | ADHD Information

Share
I am 34 years old and now taking Ritalin. I took this medication from the age of 6-16 and had to stop due to my doctor saying he believed you out grew ADHD and ADD.

Anyway, this is my first day back on Ritalin sense then.

I am on Serequel and Buspar also.

Question 1. : Is Ritalin the best drug for ADD now? Time has past and I know there are a lot of alternatives.

Qustion 2 : I was prescribed the Serequel to get rid of irritability and over stimulation which left as soon as I took Ritalin last night. The serequel helps me sleep at night ( I didnt have a prob with sleep) and causes a bit of a sluggishness all day long.

I wonder if I can get off the serequel now that the ADD meds are in place?

Question 3: Does it take some time for your body to adjust to stimulant medication? I feel a little bit of a different kind of nervousness now ( like coffee jitters) and wondering if these will go away with time and adjustment to meds. I am not on the final dosage. I am working my way up in ml.

I won't get off the buspar for a while because it helps with social anxiety and GAD.

Thanks.
Buddhahorns38842.3128240741I think I will prob have to take the buspar (anxiety med only) for a while till I get used to the Ritalin, but I dont know if I want to keep going with the serequel as it causes me to be little sleepy combined with Ritalin.

I could back off the Serequel to 100 mg instead of 200. I'm only on 200 mg because I wanted to stop the Buspar few weeks ago. Couldn't stop the buspar cold turkey and im left with 200 mg of serequel still.

Anywho.

:)
.IMac38947.4034722222I am very excited about how I feel. I know that the "good" feeling will prob go away and then the ADD relief will linger on , but it is very nice to have this great feeling for a few days.

I am calm yet have tons of energy.

Nifty.
I was getting worried yesterday because I felt like I had drank a few cups of coffee as far as nervousness.

Today is like 180 degree different. I am calm and no real side effects. I get to go up in 7 days and it can't come too soon.

bye
Hey Buddhahorns,

I am really happy for you that things are going so well.

Hey Buddhahorns,

I also take Seroquel at night and I think it may make me a little sluggish during the day, too. I was taking 50 mg. and recently cut back to 25 and think it's better. I kinda wanna get off of it to see if I really need it anyway. Let me know what you do and how it affects you. I also take Adderall and Lexapro. Do you know if Seroquel is supposed to tapered off or can you stop cold turkey? I'll ask my doc Monday, but was just wondering if anyone knew.  I almost think this med may be hindering me instead of helping, but it's hard to tell because I've been on it for a year. Any suggestions on this would be awesome. Have a great weekend!

I don't know if this will help, as I'm not that educated on the different types of meds.  My doc did recommend Wellbutrin as a good choice for adult ADHDers.  Her opinion was that the children and adolescents did better on the stims than the adults, but the adults did better with the class of meds Wellbutrin is in, whatever they are.

.IMac38947.4037268519Angela, I take about 200 mg of Seriquel and I only did that to help irritability i was having.

Soon as I started taking Ritalin the irritability was gone.

I am going to tell my doc on wed that I want to get off the seriquel, mainly because i don't think I need it with the Ritalin helping me. But also because I have diabetes in my family and Seriquel has been known to cause diabetis in some people.

You are not taking a very high dose of Serequil at all really, and remember that a stimulant will cause you to be a bit more slow because all the extra thoughts will be filtered out.

I don't know how you woould stop 25 mg slow when that is a very low dose anyway. Ill bet he just says to stop taking it... I will prob have to take less and less till Im taking none.

Today I seem real tired. The Ritalin is working the same but I don't want to do anything.

I am weaning myself off of Serequel and that might have something to do with it.

I hope so. I really don't want to be focused but lathargic.

BUDDA, I TAKE MILK AND COOKIES AT NIGHT, HELPS ME SLEEP GREAT!

Binformaed, cookies and milk cause obesity, a big killer. You need a healthier lifestyle or none of the boys will ask you out when you get to high school. I hesitate to say "college" because you seem challenged in your reasoning skills and you have no thoughts of your own.

budda,

wonderful, glad you made it through without getting sick, goody for you, but never play with candy cocaine...you might just get burned eventually.

Bet I could come up with a better word.

Whoa...nice jab!
I may be late, but I was going to mention that wellbutrin made me feel gross and 'out of it'.  Granted, I never took it while I was on Focalin xr for add, but I was taking it for mild depression and I feel 100% better without it.  I have to say, as it's the same active ingredient in Zyban, for quitting smoking, it was extremely helpful to have started wellbutrin around the same time I committed to qutting smoking.  It completely demolishes any satisfaction normally gained from smoking, it makes it taste different and somehow causes the inhalation of smoke to no longer feel satisfying.  But...different strokes, I too have heard some add folks say that wellbutrin helps make their add rx more powerful or at least more noticable.
