Hi
I am new to this so if anyone can give me information that would be great. I wanted to know if anyone has tried the drug Trileptal for the children. I have an 8 year old son and I havent put him on any medication and was thinking of trying this one, but wanted to know if anyone has tried this and had results and side effects.
If anyone can help in giving me information on their experiences that would be great.

What is his diagnosis/symptoms? Have you used any meds before? I think trileptal is a very strong med that has potential to cause tardive dyskinesia which is a chronic movement disorder caused by meds.Hi Jaysh,
I have a 7 yr old son who has been giving us a workout since birth. Trileptal has been a miracle for us (and him). He started taking it about three months ago, 150 mg in the a.m. and 300 in the p.m. There has been a mild side effect of slight stomachache and some weight gain - although I'm not sure that the medicine is responsible for the weight gain. He has always had a huge appetite.
His diagnosis was adhd with odd at first and after trying many months of therapy (alone and with family) we finally decided to try medication. I thought we should have been able to fix this ourselves - silly me!! We tried Strattera and Adderall and had horrible results. He was in a constant rage like he couln't stand being in his own body. After that experiment I avoided medication for the rest of the year.
Things were getting really bad again this summer, huge raging meltdowns every day. We found a new psychiatrist and he rediagnosed as bipolar with adhd also. He suggested tripleptal. It helped almost immediately. Huge difference in behavior and he hasn't lost any of his personality. (except the raging part). The last meltdown was two weeks ago and he was in control enough to go to his room, chill out, and join us again later. All of the things the therapist has been trying to get him to do for the last three years!!
I hope this info helps, I know how hard it is to make these medication decisions.

Geez - I cant keep up with all these different meds becoming available. The drug companies must see us adders as lucrative.
