Don’t know what else to do | ADHD Information

I don't have any experience with medication so I won't be able to help you with that. However, many of us have tried using Omega oils. It seems to have worked for us. Maybe you can try them out as well - alongside your meds?Yes, we went through that and it turned out that he didn't have ADHD, but something else. Who diagnosed him and when was his last evaluation? ADHD has MANY mimickers and is often a misdiagnosis. WHat symptoms lead his professional to the diagnosis of ADHD? Are you happy with it? You know your kid best.OlderMom38843.7146990741It is entirely possible the dx, medication or dosage is not right.  i just heard from a doctor yesterday, and this is supported by experience of posters here, that although the basic  methylphenidate is the same in several medications a person can have very different reactions to them.  By age 14 my son had tried Ritalin, Ritalin SR, Metadate, Adderal, clonidine, Concerta and Ritalin LA.  If the tablet could be altered I would adjust the dosage to get it right by breaking , shaving off edges or pouring beads out of time release capsules.  In this way the right dosage can be attained.
Medicaiton of preference is Ritalin LA.  I know someone that spent two years trying different meds until they found the right one.  It didn't take that long for ds fortunately.

Best of luck and hang in there!
My 8 yeatr old son has been on 4 diffrent medicine for adhd. It works for awhile. But the other day i got a call from his teacher that she has never seen him act this way. I said he just started another drug. Let me see how it is over the weekend. I am loosing it because nobody is helping me. I can't take this stress anymore. He has been on adderall, stratera, concerta and now focalin. Has anybody been through this many meds without anything working? Maybe he isn't being digonosed right. Thanks Karen

Karen, I know how you feel.  My 9 yr. old daughter has been on adderall xr, strattera, concerta, ritalin la, and now focalin.  Strattera worked for a while, but then stopped working.  We're now back to Strattera 25 mg. in the morning along with focalin xr 5mg (which we just started Fri.), Zoloft 100mg in the a.m. and Strattera 25 mg. at bedtime.  I also have just started her on Calcium 600mg. and Magnesium 300mg(which is combined in one pill).  I will give the focalin a few weeks, and if there is no change I will take her off all meds (except cal/mag and Zoloft-because besides adhd, she has ocd and anxiety) and start her on Omega 3.  Last week she had such a bad week at school that I had a stress headache for 3 days!  Her behavior was scaring her teacher, and she thinks a child psychiatrist should see her.  Sometimes I just feel like running away-but I would never do that.  I love her so much and it breaks my heart to see her go thru all of this.

We are also seeing a social worker who is very helpful.  She is doing cognitive behavioral therapy.  This is our second social worker, and we have also seen 2 psychologists.

You just have to keep searching for the right doctor, psychologist, social worker, etc. until you find one who can help.  Good luck to you (and to all of us)!

Hi

We've Been there, I had one md for  my son who wanted him to take Straterra, Ritilin Prozac then later Xanax, we high- tailed out of her office and said we need help, not drugs. Some md's out there can be scary. Since we've left her, the help has been much better. Still struggling, sometimes feel like no one get's how it is to deal with this, be we love our kids and there's nothing we wouldn't do to help them have a happy life.
