I think that you should also consider some kind of psychotherapy for him, with a counselor that specializes in young children - a psychologist or social worker could be considered too, although a psychiatrist would also be able to handle the medication of it. Children can grieve and get depressed too. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for all the help.  It's getting better slowly.  I've been able to divert some of his temper tantrums but not all.  He talks about his grandmother more now.  I think he has dreams about it.  Thanks again.     my son is 5 yrs.  Hes been on adderall and now on straterra.  his grandma died 2 months ago, and since then hes been getting physically aggressive with his 2 yr old sis and at school.  We have upped his straterra one month ago, no help.  he is also on clonodine for his behavior and sleeping difficulty.  He goes back to the docs this week.  I'm at the end of my rope.  I feel like giving up, but I cant do that to him or me.  Does anyone have suggestions?

Welcome!  One of the major side effects of Strattera is mood swings.  That may be what you're seeing.  Or your son could be showing signs of "agitated" depression as a result of his grandmother's death.

I don't know what kind of doctor diagnosed your son, but I would highly recommend an evaluation by a board-certified child psychiatrist.  Before switching around meds, I think you should make sure you're dealing only with ADHD and not anything else.  Good luck.

have u tried to do something that him and grandmother did?????? Thanks for the advice.I have an app. for a physc eval next month.  But he got sent home from school the other day cause he hit a pregnant lady in the tummy and hit a little girl and spit everywhere.  The day before he took off out the car before it was in park and I chased him for a mile in and out of the woods, pond, and main streets.  I started the reward system again told him if he gets 5 stars in 2 days he could go fishing.  It worked for now, well see. Last time it worked for 2 weeks.  Thanks againWe had put Kyle on a methlyphenidate and OMG, he was like night and day, when he was on that he was constantly mad/angry/upset he had the worst attitude but since we had switched him to the stratera he seems to be doing a lot better...he has been on concerta, adderall, few others but this one seems to control the anger a lot better, he is still out of control, bossy, hard to deal with and acts up during his afterschool program but he doesn't seem to throw his dinner at me anymore, or his chairs when putting him in time out, now he is just out of control but not in anger....I agree with smallmom. You may want to visit a NeuroPsych or Child Psychiatrist before messing with the meds. He may have something beyond ADHD and stimulants/Straterra won't help and could make things worse. Get another opinion from somebody with high credentials--a psychiatrist (with the MD) or a NeuroPsych. Good luck.

my son took strattera and it made him moody and grumpy...I agree with the above posts  ( check with a new neuropsych) but just some info about stims you still have other options and when appropriate you may want to talk to your doc about a stimulant in the METHYLPHENIDATE family ( ritalin, concerta, focalin,)  these are  different from adderall which is an AMPHETAMINE .... my son does better on adderall then anything in the methylphenidate group...some kids do just the opposite..the effectiveness of meds vary from kid to kid

Good luck
