can a teacher grab a child? | ADHD Information

If a stranger did that to my child in a store or on the street I would call the police.  I would probably end up doing the same thing in this situation with a teacher I did not know.  Teachers are not allowed to touch children as far as I know.  My son is 14 and I dont' recall anybody ever laying a finger on him, and this is a kid that has spent the last month suspended from school.  The principal didn't even suggest corporal punishment of any kind.  That's not right. If I were in your shoes I would not be thinking about this teacher as a teacher.....she is just a person that you don't know who was abusive (IMO) to your child.Did she twist your daughter's arm or just turn her? I doubt if it is illegal to grab her arm as long as she didn't hurt her. I would talk to the principal and tell him you would like that teacher to stay away from your kids if you feel that she was rough or hurting her.

Hello there valerie318

Wow...I would definately go to the principal and if that didn't work I would go to the school district.

Keep us posted.

legal or not I would file a complaint...and did she speak to you when she saw you?Because she sure would have heard from me!!

If you did that to your own child in public, CPS would be after you.

The teacher's reaction said it all, and therein lies your answer.

At my son's school, they have a big problem with the student's bullying each other, and the snap right on things like that if it were students monkying around they'd be suspended.  No one is allowed to touch each other in schools.  Not even hugs.  It's very sad.  I cannot say if it is illeagal, but HIGHLY INNAPRORIATE, yes!!!  And, due at least a disciplinary action by the school.

I think here in Canada that counts as assault and is illegal -- at least in theory.  There is nothing stopping you from calling the police.  In theory, they could convict the teacher of assault and give the teacher a prison sentence.  In reality, however, I think it's very unlikely the teacher would be convicted, because of a combination of lack of evidence, lack of severity (no actual injuries, probably) and societal discrimination against children and in favour of teachers in a school setting.  However, even if the teacher is not convicted, the experience of having to talk to the police about it might teach the teacher something. It is actually dangerous to pull a child's arm like that. My son was pulling against a chilcare person during church when he was three, and it put his elbow out of joint. I'm sure the school doesn't want something like that happening! i would talk to the principal as well. Here in va they are not allowed to touch children as well. Hi, just a quick question.  I've been looking on the internet and can't find any information.  I had a teacher grab my daughter by the arm and twist her around the other day, the teacher had NO idea that I was nearby.  Here's the kicker, she is only 4 years old and NOT EVEN A STUDENT at the school.  The teacher's eyes got big when she saw me watching the whole thing. The reason?  She was skipping up the hall to meet her big brother.  Does anyone know if this is legal for a teacher to do?  I sure don't want my son getting HER for a teacher next year!

I would call the school and file a compliant with the principal.  I'm not sure if it's legal or not though.

hmmmmm I don't know if it is leagal either but I would talk with the principal....try to keep it as friendly as possible but make your point (you probably have many more years at this school) also request for a different teacher for next year....

Goodl luck , let us know what happens

here in great britain it is illegal,i thinks she knows she is in trouble by her reaction.make a complaint and make it clear if you see that womam next to any of your children there will be trouble.i admire your restraint.i would probablyhave lost my temper. She'd be in trouble if that was my kid. I'm guessing CPS wouldn't like that one bit. I would tell the principal. She probably won't act like it to you, but I'll bet the principal will be appalled and furious at that teacher and will give her a good scolding.OlderMom38845.3456828704
