Medicine at school | ADHD Information

Hi

I wrote a note to you on the post  "brand new and scare" on the parents boards.

If you can give me some input I will appreciate it.

Thanks

I think they are wrong.  Do you have a 504 or IEP in place?  Those would help.  Here in the states, schools (the nurses) are required to give any medications children need during the school day, AT THEIR PRESCRIBED TIMES.  If they are not, they are doing something very wrong.   Children are not at all allowed to bring in their own meds and/or keep them on themselves.  Meds like ADHDers take is often sold on campus for big bucks, the kids are getting high on it.  Your schools reaction to your request is VERY unusual.  Dig deeper.  I need help in answering a question.  My second-grade son was diagnosed with ADHD and is on metadate.  The teacher and I decided it was best for him to get his medicine at school because it was getting forgotten and I leave so early I did not want to give it to him too early.  (Needs to be given at 7:45 am but he is on the bus).  I got the needed paperwork done and everything was going GREAT!!!  I had a conflict with my fifth graders band teacher and the principal decided to write me a note and at the end he said by the way it is my understanding we go beyond the call of duty with your son and give him medicine that is once a day we need to discuss that issue soon.  I pulled the medicine out of school because frankly I do not trust the principal.  Is that discrimination???  Any ideas.  The medicine is being given now at 6:30 in the morning and is running out by the time he gets home from school (when he needs it while doing homework)   I do not want to increase or give him more when the time from of him getting at school was perfect.
