Concerta and how much to eat | ADHD Information

Share

Hi there!

I have a bit of a problem and can't believe there's not a solution to it I think it's just that I'm not able to figure it out. I am 34 and take concerta 18 ml. It does wonders for me but the problem is what I am assuming is the most common side effect and that is wieght loss. I was wondering is there anyone out there that has had the same problem that has managed to counter it or at least not loose anymore. I have lost 12 pounds in less then month I have gone from 120 pounds to 108 and I am 5´4" so you can see the problem. I do not want to quit taking them because like I said they otherwise do wonders for me. I only want serious advice. Just so you know I am planning to go to my doctor for help just thought that someone out there might same me a doctors trip.

Dawn.  I am on Adderall, and have problems with eating - which is somewhat similar.  I drink 3 protein shakes a day in addition to what I normally eat.  They are 3 EAS Myoplex shakes (shich I guess they will have in Sweden as well) and adds about 900 calories per day.  You probably could adjust your intake higher.

Protein shakes are good in that the high protein tends to keep muscle wasting at a low - which will happen when you lose weight quickly, etc.  Protein "burns" much more slowly than carbs - creating a good "background" of slow burning nutrition.  Best of all, especially for me, since I do not like eating meat - your carb intake from food can be higher.  I shoot for about 120-150 grams of protein per day (I am a 200lb middle-aged male).  It keeps my weight at bay.

The best of luck to you.  These meds have proved to be wonderful for me - with the one caveat that they suppress appetite and cause you to also burn more calories.  My wife is 5'9" and 130lbs - so you are similar - and I know how thin that can be.  Good luck.

Dawn Ann,

I have the exact same problem as you.  I've been taking Adderall for almost a year.  The first 2 weeks, I don't think I ate one meal. It's weird, cuz you don't realize it at the time.  I'm 5'7' and started out weighing 122. I got down to 103 and people were asking if I was anorexic.  My doc said if I didn't gain weight he would take me off the meds. I freaked and bought some protein shakes and bars.

They say your appetite will return on these meds, but mine has not. So, I use the clock as an indicator to remind me to eat. I buy the same shakes jonquito uses. They're very good and have lots of vitamins and are very filling.
