Advicedcarsen - I just saw this posted in another forum by 'addhelp' - it may be something you want to ask your doc about: "There is a new medication available for ADHD. It is called Methylin Chewable Tablet and Methylin Oral Solution. It has the lowest dose of methylphenidate approved at 2.5mgs. That is great because the physician can start with the lowest possible dose using a stimulant then titrate up to optimal controll. In addition, so many children have difficulty in swallowing tablet and pills that this allows for increased patient compliance. In addition, it is convenient for the parents when giving their son or daughter medication. You can visit the pharmaceuticals company website at methylin4kids.com. Thanks and I hope this helps those parents that are having difficulty in getting their children to take their meds for their ADHD symptoms. " Thank you Kropp,
I placed a call into the DR. and she is not sure about the med. she needs to look into it somemore adn will get back with me. I did try GOGURTS and that seems to work and this morning I put the med in his cherrios and he drank the mink that the med was in so as long as he dosent think medication is in he will take it. He has stopped drink in the morning because we were putting it in his juice in the morning. I will keep you posted in a marshmallow can work too.I need advice I have a 5 year old son that recently was diagn. with ADHD and ODD (oppositional Defiance Dysorder) he was given concenta and could not swallow the pill so then we were given Ritialin that can be open and put in juice to drink. My problem is that my son know that the med is in the drink and refuse to drink it, and the more I fight with him the more he refuses to drink it. Does anyone have any advise on how to give the medication that he needs to him, and do they make a chewable or liquid form??
Thank you in advance -dcarsen- Maybe put it in a spoonful of yogurt, jello, or applesauce? That way, it's down in one shot instead of trying to get it down in little sips. We had our son practice swallowing pills with m&m's. When he could swallow them before his older sister - that really helped a lot. Krobb-
Thank you for you help, We have tried giving him a spoonfull of applesause and pudding
Thank you again for the yogurt suggestion!! dcarsen |
