do i have adhd? | ADHD Information
hi, im new to this site. i need help!!! im a 26yr old female. all my life have shown 'signs' and have been told i have adhd. have never been tested. i am currently seeing a job psychologist cause im having alot of trouble with my current job and last week he suggested i had adhd? he is going to speak to my doctor about putting me on dexdrine or risperidone. ive already been on three different antidepressants which did nothing for me, what if these drugs do nothing, does that mean i dont have adhd? therefore dont need to get tested?Oh my, you sound like a grown up version of my son! It certainly sounds like ADHD to me. I found an article, if you can sit still long enought to read it (I quickly skimmed through it myself), and see if anything here rings a bell for you, especially as you were younger. calicorose, thanx very much, ill try to read the articlecalicorose, thanx for your reply, it is very helpfull. i have had a thourough physical examination and bloodworks done which have all been clear. two years ago i tried antidepressants cause my doctor thinks i am depressed but dont show any signs of depression, these drugs didnt work, ive almost lost my job a few times, my job psychologist (CRS AUSTRALIA) is working with my employer to help me keep my job, they have told me i am one of there best workers cause im so active physically that i can get the work done. i have problems with the 'mental side' of the job. im always arguing with coworkers for the fun of it, cant sit still long enough and disrupting in staff meetings, hate reading therefore ive never read a memo or the procedures manual, not aloud to drive the staff cars cause im always losing points or my licence, when asked to do something ill forget, or do it wrong, my coworkers are always telling me to settle down! or take a break! because of my hypoactivity which i was born with, they think i turn up to work on drugs!!!! although i have had a alcohol & cannibis problem! i wish i can get tested but i live in Ulverstne, Tasmania, Australia and doctors here have trouble believing in adhd, i might see (if i remember) if my CRS psychologist can test me!!! thanxIMac, thanx for your reply. i dont know anything about these drugs, so if resperdone isnt for adhd then why else would it get suggested for, in two years ive been to three psychiatrists and they've all said im not depressed and i have never felt depressed?Risperdone isn't usually prescribed for ADHD.
Whatever, you need to be thoroughly evaluated by a professional expert, if ADHD is suspected. (Psychologist, psychiatrist, neuropsych) If the new drugs do not work, it does not mean you don't have ADHD. Only the eval can determine that, not how drugs do or don't work. There are many different meds for ADHD, besides the anitdepressant route. I would encourage you to also get a complete physical with labwork also, if you have not already done so, just to make sure everything else is in line. The docs don't seem to automatically do this.
Trouble with work can be a sign of ADHD. What kinds of trouble are you having on the job? I want to say that I think it's great your employer is willing to work with you to keep you there. Best of luck to you!
