Thank you for your input. Yes, his teacher did say that he was not ready.  Yes, he does know that he is not going to go to 1st grade. He does not want to go. So, we have decided that we are just keep him home. Thanks for everything, it is so nice to have someone who understands to talk to.

*It has got to be tough on the little guy do something special with him that day make him feel smart and special, my heart goes out to him.  As long as it is approached in a certain way he should be okay.

Our 6 yr old has adhd. We spent most of the school year trying to get his meds regulated. So,, here is my question. His Class has a K grad planned for weds. he is not being promoted to 1st grade because my hubby and i do not think that he is ready. So, do we make him attend the grad. or just keep him home. We have mixed feelings about this. please give us your opinions on the subject.

did the teacher say he was not ready for first?

my son is in the first grade this year and his class is made up of all types of learners...this is why they had 6 different reading groups...

if you are for sure he will not go on with his classmates then I guess you should keep him home.

joemom38852.5143171296I would keep him home. It would be hard for him to see his friends all graduate and move on when he isn't going to. I would keep him home as well it would hurt him otherwise.  I would tell the teacher ahead of time of your plans.Does your son know that he is not going to be promoted to the 1st grade?  If he does, than I'd ask him if he wants to go.  Even if he isn't moving on he may still want to participate with his classmates.  At my son's Kindergarden Graduation they didn't say "Now your going to be in first grade", it was just a little ceremony with hats and songs and some snacks.  Is this a big event in the school?  Go with your gut, you'll know whats right.
