Havent been here in awhile. Its been so hectic and busy latley. I'm basically typing my thoughts, sorry to bore anyone. Im a little cranky. Seems my wonder drug, not so much, but it helped, isnt helping so much anymore, Ive done the "vacation" etc. but it didnt help. So im going to the doc and see what he says, i dont want to switch meds tho, i take Adderall 30 mg twice a day, not the xr, so we will see if he ups it or what but anyway, its a little disheartening!! Any more advice?Whats the most a doc will give a person? and how can i talk to him and not feel like im trying to get him to be a drug dealer? he is a family doc, and i cant take the time, nor do i have the time to find a phsyc or whatever, Ya'll are so good at that and i knwo i never really offer any, but any words of wisdom woudl be appreciated!!!!!!

You may need to get your meds upped - that's pretty common after being on them for a while.
How about therapy? That's a key component to getting better. The meds are just an anchor to keep you from flying all over the place and gives you the ability to make the right decisions. But if you never learned how to in your youth - what good is having the ability? It's like being capable of driving but never getting the lessons. You'd be a failure.
Do check in on it if you haven't already.
And not to worry. There are many things that can be done. You may even want to think about changing (or mixing ) meds as there is no "one size fits all" for ADHD. I use dexedrine but if it ever stopped working I would be more than willing to try a combo or change. I don't ever want to slip back into that ADHD fog again - it's very lonely there.
I agree with Glen - it is lonely in the fog.
If you want to try alternative, check out the "crawlers unite" thread on the alternative posting section. Exercises from the book Stopping ADHD have helped me very much. My symptoms are minimal - I still have a while to go with the exercises. And I am not on meds.
Adderall worked for me and then we upped it and then it wasn't working so great, so I know what you mean. I don't mean to give false hope to anyone, but the exercises have really worked for me. Maybe not for everyone. If you have questions, you can pm me.
I have the same experience with my meds. I added an afternoon dose, it helped finish the work day. But I don't think the meds quit working as well. Here is my theory.
When I started meds, they made a huge difference. It was easy to get caught up with "straightening myself out." I spent a lot of time learning coping mechanisms, making lists, and learning to experience life now that I could pay attention.
But after about a year and a half or so, meds crossed over some invisible line and became "the way things are." I backslid a bunch, and really don't want to climb back up that hill. I am no longer determined to CONQUER MY ADHD.
I finally realized that ADHD is part of who I am. It isn't something to be defeated or hidden or erased. I found out that meds or no, I am somewhat forgetful, occasionally irresponsible, and rarely organized. I take medication so that these qualities to not lay waste to my life like they once did.
That is how it looks from my universe anyway.
The right teaching method that fits that person is what works best to me. Someone here claims nutritional stuff is just a catalst. Proove to me it's a dopamine problem like they claim. If that were true than why our things less difficult as a adult for me. Your body is what goes into it. Glen, there is no one size fits all for anyone even those without disorders. The world would being boreing if we were all wired alike. This mintality is why educational needs are different for us all. A person should have what educational need that fits them. Govt. claims it a money problem that isn't the parents fault. You should get what you need!
