SON(7)SEVERE ADHD MOM NEEDS HELP | ADHD Information
WE HAVE TAKEN MEDICATION BREAKS, BUT WITHOUT THE MEDICATION THE CEREBRAL PALSY SYMPTOMS WORSEN AND HE SUFFERS FROM SEVERE MUSCLE CRAMPING AND THE PAIN IN HIS LEGS GETS SO BAD THAT HE DON'T WANT TO WALK AFTER ABOUT TWO DAYS, HIS DROOLING IS SO BAD THAT HE'LL SOAK HIS SHIRTS IN 15-30 MINUTES.
HIS BEHAVIOR DURING THE SCHOOL EPISODE WAS ON A MED BREAK HIS SCHOOL HAS MORELESS TOLD ME WITHOUT HIS MEDS HE CANNOT BE AT SCHOOL.I WAS SURPRISED AT THE WAY HE RESPONDED TO THE OTHER CHILD ALL OF MY CHILDREN KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND THEY ALSO KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE TYPES OF SITUATIONS HE WAS DEVASTATED BY THE WAY HE ACTED AND WAS NERVOUS ABOUT GOING BACK TO SCHOOL, HE FELT EMBARASSED TO TELL ANYONE WHAT REALLY HAPPENED, I FELT SO BAD FOR HIM. I TALKED WITH HIM FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE HE WOULD TELL WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

My son is black in an almost all white/Native American school district, but for some reason nobody has ever picked on him for that.We (hub and I) are probably friends with every black person in our community and they have talked to my son and daughter about how to respond to nasty namecalling, and they were both told NOT to respond other than to mildly reply, "I feel sorry for you." Getting some "before it happens" intervention has really helped both of them. Nobody picks on them for that because they can't get the wished for response. Maybe role playing in advance will help your child. If he has speech delays, you may want to have him evaluated for high functioning autism. NeuroPsychs are best at that, and he's seeing one, but sometimes you even need another opinion from the same sort of professional...yes, it gets very tiring. And your son sounds like he has a complicated medical history. I do wish you luck.I agree it's probably a good idea to get some retesting done or seek out a second opinion. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you find a solution soon.If the problems started when you raised the adderall, why dont you lower the dose again?
If he cannot take a higher dose of Adderall and the lower dose isn't working well, I think its time to investigate other meds.
Also, has he ever had a med break? He's been on since 3, maybe its time to remove meds and see whats going on?
I have a thirteen yr. old boy with ADHD, and had to start a new morning routine and stand by it or he would be uncooperative too! My son too doesn't like his behavior and gets upset and apologizes in his own way. When does he take his first meds? Mine takes his right after he wakes on weekdays and I wake him on weekends at the same time to keep the doses constant. Praise your son daily and get him a counselor to help him cope! Boys are fearless and hard to control.
And yes my son too blames others for things he should be accountable for! Just recently he accused me for his lower grades because of a shift change I had to take at work! I am now back to days, and still don't see the improvement! And there is so many more, I could write forever. But as all the Dr's. we are invoved with say " Routine Routine Routine" a MUST, hard I know.

I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN TWO BOYS 7 & 3 WITH ADHD AND TWO GIRLS 9 & 5 WITHOUT. MY BOYS ARE VERY ACTIVE AND HAVE EXTREME BEHAVIORS. RIGHT NOW MY TROUBLE LIES WITH THE SEVEN YEAR OLD HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD WHEN HE WAS ONLY TWO AND STARTED MEDS @ 3 (ADDERALL 10 mg TO START THEN 15mg THEN 20 mg THEN XR 15 MG FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS THEN XR 20 mg FOR THREE YEARS) HE WAS JUST RECENTLY PUT ON XR 25 mg IN MARCH AND SINCE APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AFTER HE STARTED HAVING EXTREMELY ROUGH MORNINGS THIS HAS CAUSED DISRUPTION OF OUR WHOLE FAMILY. HE WAKES UP DOWNRIGHT MEAN AND HATEFUL AND IT HURTS TO SEE HIM THIS WAY IT'S LIKE I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO HE IS AND THE HARDEST PART IS BY THE TIME HE GETS HOME HE TELLS ME OVER AND OVER HOW HE WANTS TO BE GOOD IN THE MORNING HE TOLD ME TODAY THAT HE JUST WISHED HE WAS A REGULAR KID, THAT HURT THAT HE DOESN'T THINK HE'S "REGULAR". HELP FROM ANYONE PLEASE WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE PEDIATRIC BEHAVORIAL PSYCHOLOGIST ON THURSDAY!!!
He seems to have not been re-evaluated for a long time. Has he ever seen a Child Psyschiatrist (with the MD) or a Neuropsych? "Severe ADHD" rings alarm bells with me--we heard the same thing--in general it means it's more than ADHD, but a Behavioral Psycologist is probably not the way to go in order to find out what's going on, through and through. Of course he wants to be good. Adderrall, given to kids who seem ADHD but actually have a mimicker, can get markedly worse, violent, even suicidal. I highly recommend seeing a NeuroPsych, not a behavioralist. That won't work. The NeuroPsych does intensive testing to see the root cause of the behaviors-the disorders that are causing them. He can diagnose ADHD and beyond and will evaluate for many hours. If you want to try another site, with kids who have all sorts of disorders, I have one for you.

THE DOCTOR HE IS GOING TO IS A NEURO-PSYCHOLOGIST NOT TO SOUND DUMB BUT IS THIS THE SAME TYPE OF DOCTOR AS YOU ARE SUGGESTING? HE HAS ALSO BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MILD HEMIPLEGIC CEREBRAL PALSY, WHICH SEEMS TO ONLY EFFECT HIS LEGS AND DROOLING.
HIS DAYS AT SCHOOL ARE WELL EXCEPT HE HAS BEEN LATE MORE TIMES THAN ARE ALLOWED AND HE HAS HAD A FEW DAYS WHICH WERE COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL AS IF HE WERE COMPLETELY UNMEDICATED!
Yep. A NeuroPsycologist. Ok, so he's had testing. If he doesn't do better, I'd get a second opinion from another NeuroPsych. My motto is, if a professional isn't helping, move on (and we had to move on many times) :) Does he have LDs? Does he need help in school? Does he rage at home or at school?
THE MOST RECENT REFERAL BACK TO THE NP WAS GIVEN BY OUR PEDIATRICIAN WHO FEELS THAT THERE MAY BE POSSIBLY SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST THE ADHD. HE HAS BEEN IN SPEECH AND MOST RECENTLY REFERRED TO THE RESOURCE ROOM AT SCHOOL WHICH IS FOR MILD TO MODERATE LD'S THEY SAY HE HAS NIETHER HE JUST NEEDED MORE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION TO KEEP HIM FOCUSED, AND IT SEEMS TO BE BENEFICIAL SINCE HE HAS BEEN THERE APPROX. 4 MONTHS HE HAS BEGAN TO READ WRITE SENTENCES AND EVEN DO SOME OF THE SPELLING TESTS IN HIS REG. ED CLASS.
FIRST OF ALL MY SON IS MULTI-RACIAL AND ATTENDS PREDOMINANTLY WHITE SCHOOL
HE HAS ONLY HAD ONE TOTAL OUTRAGE AT SCHOOL IT WAS 3 MONTHS AGO A BOY THAT IS IN HIS REG ED CLASSROOM TOLD HIM TO SHUT HIS BLACK A** UP AND HE JUMPED ON HIM AND STARTED HITTING HIM REPEATEDLY SAYING I'LL SHOW YOU MY BLACK A**.
WE HAVE MANY UPS AND DOWNS AT HOME TO MANY TO RECALL. BUT OUT OF CURIOUSITY DO MOST CHILDREN WITH ADHD TRY TO MAKE EVERY REASON UP IN THE WORLD WHY IT REALLY WASN'T THEIR FAULT SOMETHING HAPPENED WHEN IT OBVIOUSLY WAS?
Can relate our school is almost all white and we our white. Another big issue in our current school is the school board/staff cares more for natives kids who's parents went here also. This is a small town we are in. Who you are shouldn't matter. I found out just in the past months someone reported this school to tx. education. our new school will still be small town but has more SE to offer kids in Fannin countey tx. They also are way to competitive in sports here. Kids in this school involved in sports are the some bodies here as well.
