Adderall and full day coverage | ADHD Information

I just started taking the XR and am having the same problem. I am going to my doctor this afternoon to try and fix the problem.  Because by like 4pm I am starting to die out.  So I will report back what he tells me.  Ditto with the XR times... I take another dose of IR Adderall about 2pm to finish my work day.  If I am going to be going out in the evening I take another XR so that my social skills aren't in the toilet by 7pm.

What all of us who take stimulants, especially Adderall or Adderall XR, need to remember and realize is that Adderall is a very strong drug.  In the past four years, my doctor has had to increase my dosage due to a higher level of drug metabolization. At first 10 mgs.at 7 am worked until 4 or 5.  By then I would come home and relax.   Now, I'm up to 10 mgs. 3x a day, but I have cut back my last dose to 5 mgs.  My piece of advice- maybe your doctor should increase the XR by 5 mgs. or if you need caffeine at some point in your day, limit yourself to one serving when you being to feel yourself crash.  Also, too much caffeine with amphetamines in general can lead to toxicity, but this is rare.
I'm now on adderall XR, and it seems to work pretty well for about 8 hours, but I really need more than that for most days.  How have other people manage to find full day coverage with adderall?  Do you take an SR tablet later in the afternoon?  Do you take two XRs over the course of the day?
I started on three doses a day of the short-acting Adderall, then switched to one dose a day of XR with a short-acting dose later in the day. That would have been ideal except I was only able to get 6.5-7 hrs of benefit from the XR. I've since reverted to three a day of the short-acting.

bellareese - what do you mean by "toxicity"?? I've checked studies on caffeine and have seen no such thing.  Do you have info on that?  I'm serious - not being facetious in this as as far as I know there are no harmful long-term effects with caffeine in coffee/soda and our meds.

Actually 8 hours is good.  I get about 4-5 hours out of XR.  When I took XR, I dosed it 2X per day and got about 10 hours out of it.  Shire really hasn't got a good handle on the timed-release yet.

I switched to IR and found that I can take less overall mg and control the dosage on my own a bit better.

As has been posted, some people take XR and then later take IR to continue coverage.  That works well too.

I drink coffee everyday with my adderall xr because I actually think it helps it work - and adderall isnt THAT strong.....the drugs that make it up are, but its given in moderately low dosage.

And I take 40 mg of adderall xr in the morning and it works pretty good. Smoke a cigarette now and then, because I think that also helps it work (short term though)
