Do Stimulant Medications Stunt Growth | ADHD Information

I was reading an article about Ritalin stunting growth. My doctor said I shouldn't worry and just blew it off. My son is now on Dexedrine and I read the same thing about this drug. Does anybody know of anyone this has happen to or is it a myth?My pediatrician informed me that my son (because of the meds) would loose an inch off his overall height.  But he also said that if I took him off the meds through part of his adolescence that he would probably gain that inch back.

Tamaraw196938242.6928009259Hi Tamaraw1969, i can tell you that my nephew who is now 18 has taken all of those medicines, and has been on adderall. for about a year is just about six feet tall, my 11 year old nephew also has been on Ritalin ,and many other medication now on concerta for about two years is just shy of 5'5, and my 10 year old son did the same started on Ritalin, but been on concerta a while now, is the short one, just about 5'2, now I'm only 5'3, so to me he looks big. Hope this helpsThank You Bigdaddy & Razzlynne17 so much for your input my son is so sensitive and does worry about his growth.From what I understand, recent research shows that concerns for growth stunting aren't panning out. I was told by an AD/HD researcher not too long ago that he specifically tells parents that current research does not indicate problems with growth, and that "drug holidays" are not needed like we used to think.
