TENEX ? | ADHD Information

MY SON WAS PRESCRIBED TENEX .5 mg @ NIGHT.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR BEHAVIORS,BUT WHEN I GET THE PRESCRIPTION IT SAYS IT IS FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Tenex and its cousin Clonidine are blood pressure meds that are also used to "turn the motor off" for kids with ADHD.  Both meds are prescribed for hyperactivity and impulsivity but do little for inattention.  They also help settle kids down for sleep.  We have huge compliance problems in the mornings and my son's new
psychiatrist recommended Tenax, as he says it will still be in his system
when he wakes up and he said it would help with attention and
impulsiveness until the Adderall XR kicks in. He said it works in this
situation for 50% of ADHD kids. I haven't tried it yet... following my usual
policy of waiting til things are way too bad and I'm near a nervous
breakdown, then I won't feel guilty about adding another med.

I have heard of Strattera being used in combination with stimulants to
make mornings a little better also. It seems to have more complex effects
and side-effects, though. Tenax sounds pretty straight-forward. I'll be
watching here to see how it goes if you decide to try it... good luck!
