and i do not want her to go to public school and get worse and lost in the mix.
first you should have her formely diagnosed,i am from uk so i can't help you there but others can.
you can try other alternatives before medicating and if it does not work then think about it ,talk about it and then decide but you are a long way from that yet.
how is she at home?
Hi everybody.
Well I have a 6 year old daughter who just got suspended from school because she doesnt listen to the teacher. She talks alot, doesnt stay in her seat and is off task a lot. She is not this out of control kid that would be considered "hyper" by definition but she has problem following directions (i.e. dont talk alot, raise ur hand, stay in ur seat). I realy dont know what to do. she is only in the first grade. The school that she is at is very rigid and academic and doesnt have time for a child that behaves in such a manner and i do not want her to go to public school and get worse and lost in the mix. I'm all for medicating her buy her mom isn't and i dont know what to do. We discipline very strictly and it dont seem to help and Im at the point that i dont know what to do!!!
I would have testing done to rule out a CAPD problem.,The Vestibular System and Auditory-Language Process. There is a list of " symptoms" on this site, it very closely mimicks add and often can accompany add. I bring this up, because my daughter has this and it was just caught at at 15!
Thanks. I dont think she has that. She doesnt have many of those symptoms
Here are her symptoms
--Talks ALOT, only listens when threaten, Talks a lot, To friendly, doesnt understand personal space, follower, talks a lot, can't sit still, talks alot, annoying, talks alot, rushes through everthing she does, does not know how to do things by herself, talks alot, doesn't change behavior after punishment, doesn't show remorse for the bad behavior, talks alot, needy, has a loud peircing girly voice and oh yeah.. she talks alot.
Nobody here can diagnose your child. Our opinions don't matter. I would take her to a NeuroPsych. She has symptoms of many disorders, not just ADHD, and a NeuroPsych will administer tests. Does she have any other problems/delays/LDs? She could also have high functijoning autism, which manifests like you described. Is she social? Again, we can't tell you. A NeuroPsych can test for ADHD and beyond. Ridigity, trouble with transitions, social problems are red flags for autism spectrum disorder.
OlderMom, I hesitate to say, but often, someone comes on here asking if they are not alone in what's going on in their family, you often mention even though you don't know all of the pieces of the story from the first post, a terrible scary list of possiblities that are probably similar to experiences of yours only. It seems that you try to bunch all newbie's kids into the mold of your child, when they might not be as severe, and even be quite different from your child and your experiences. As always, suggestions to be properly evaluated is awesome advice. No one here is trying to diagnose her child, she just wants to know that she is not alone. This is what we do, we share our stories.
And you know what??? Our opinions do matter, as do yours as well.

There is a list of " symptoms" on this site, it very closely mimicks add and often can accompany add. I bring this up, because my daughter has this and it was just caught at at 15!That's because people should look for more than just ADHD. Treating ADHD when it's not is worse than not knowing the possibilities. None of us know if the children who are posted about here have ADHD. My son had that diagnosis too and so do many kids, when it's really more. Anyone who reads here is free to ignore the advice to get a complete evaluation (to me that's common sense), but I don't want others to be unaware like I was. Sorry. I wish others had bumped me along. A raging kid, out of control, who can't learn, and has no social skills most likely isn't aDHD, even if the ADHD label is somewhat comforting. I would rather give sound advice (the NeuroPsych) rather than just say "I understand." We DON'T understand--like you said--all our kids are different and all should be evaluated by a credentialed professional beyond a non-MD Psycologist. This poster asked "Is this ADHD?" Well, the answer is you don't know, I don't know, and many things mimic ADHD. It is unsound advice to try ADHD meds/treatment if you don't know. I suggest the NeuroPsych evaluation, rather than empty comforting words. I suggest reading:
Have a nice day :)
OlderMom38856.6276157407DIZ it sounds like ADHD have her tested as soon as possible, the good news is my son is exactly like that and behavioral therapy is helping a lot also it is not perfect and he has a lot of problems that needs more than therapy.it is a long road you are about to go down but we are here to help.
how is her sleep?
To me personally it sound more like ADD which is like adhd but without the hyperactivity. My son is 5 and had ADHD and autistic tendancies and he cannot follow simple instructions either in school or at home. What is Your daughter like at home? Do You have any other children? If so what is she like with them?
She is the same way at home. She talks ALLL THE TIME!!! and she is what people considered hard headed!! she dont listen and i have to give her the choice of a consequence for her to listen. I feel like its either let her do something or nothing. There is no in between grounds with her.. she is either on my freaking nerves or sad cause she cant do anything. She doesnt know how to just "chill" is what i call it. Just do her own thing. She is a normal kid she has a 11 year old sister and they have fun together but when my 11 year old wants to just chill out and be by herself my 6 year old doesnt know how to relax and go do her own thing.
More than anything I can define her behavior as just annoying and she doesnt understand personal space.
I sounds like she might be innatentive, at the least. Is she defiant at all, or just in her head, out the window, or distracted more than anything?
Is she in a non-public school now?
Yes she goes to an academic charter school where the take breaks but they do not have recess. Its a great school but i believe the type of child I have just doesn't fit their program. But i really wished i could control her behavior so she could stay at that school

I felt the same way. My DD was in a small private school until this school year (5th grade). The problem is that private schools do not HAVE to give your child any services by law, where as public does. Since moving her we've got her on an IEP & sdhes getting the help she needs from teachers who are trained to deal with the problems she has. All I'm saying is that its not neccessarily true that she'll get lost in the shuffle. It might not hurt to pay a visit to the public school in your district & see what they have to offer. If shes formally Dx'ed a public school would perhaps give you more options. Homeschooling or cyber schooling are other good options to look into as well.

That is good information I will definately look to see what the public schools in my area offer.
I sounds like she might be innatentive, at the least. Is she defiant at all, or just in her head, out the window, or distracted more than anything?
Is she in a non-public school now? My son is 13, and on and off over the years have looked into private and charter schools. Many of the good ones in our area only catered to the ones that could sit still and pay attention. I felt that was not the best place for our son, as I heard that they discriminate terribly on the kids who need extra help of ANY form. They make them so miserable they just leave the schools. Also, no help with IEP's or 504's either. Something you might watch out for. I feel in our situation, making our son fit the mold of a scholarly-type or college prep school (even in the elementry years) was not a comfortable place for him.
But yes, get a thorough evalation and physical first, and go from there. She sounds much like my son.
