I agree with what 4myson said,

"Children deserve what is is best for them.  With proper handling whether it is medicine, diet, or whatever else there may be is what a child needs.  Not judgemental opinions."

Calling people "idots" is the type of behavior I am trying to get my DS to stop doing.

Rebekah

i am sorry for the ignorant bigots that answered your post, unfortunately they are everywhere.

i hope you found the advice you neede and good luck

hey 4myson, shut the hell up and let sunny have her say.  it is your opinion that sucks here!  her's is actually quite intelligent, you however are an idiot!

I seem to have upset some on this post.  That was not my goal in posting here.

I will continue to post and do not plan on stopping.  This is a site for us to express our thoughts on subjects and opinions wether we agree or not with one another.

OlderMom I enjoy reading your posts.  You seem to have a great deal to share with others.

4myson, It doesn't seem like you offended anyone, (that you should worry about) just you got caught in the deluge of trolling called beiformed.  She showed up last week as anti-ritilin.  Gawd I hope she doesn't reappear next weekend.  That's an awful thought.....But watch out.  Us NORMAL ones, are not so insensitive and disrespectful.

Glad to know that she did not scare away at least one newie.  We all have a lot of great things to bounce around with each other, and so glad you will stay and play with us.  Oldermom has much wisdom.

And to my friend that called me an idiot.  That is not the case.  I'm an educated individual with a bachelor of science and have some towards my masters.  I just have opinions ...I don't think that classifies me as an idiot.

I'm a mom that is learning daily that being a mom is not always easy.  I'm a mom that is doing everything in my power to help my son have a productive positive life.  I'm a mom that came to this posting forum to learn from others and share my ideas.  I'm a mom who enjoys learning and who will always enjoy learning from others. Even from individuals such as yourself. I'm a mom that hopes to instill in my child a life of learning and respect for others.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts even though I don't agree.

thanks calicorose The one who called you the name was our troll.  i'm so sorry!  Please don't take her seriously. I'm learning.  Thanks! Thanks, 4My :) Look, I often tell people with very severe kids to look into bipolar and autistic spectrum disorder and I know it bugs some posters, BUT...when some outsider comes on here and tries to tell mothers who love their kids that meds are baaaaaaad or that ADHD doesn't exist, heck, they're going to deal with ME. Between myself and my son we've had every diagnosis (and, I swear, treatment) under the sun, and I tend to read up on everything that is diagnosed, and also know lots about meds. NOBODY is going to go unchallenged if they start to post garbage on here about meds or the validity of the existence of ADHD. There are lurkers here who don't post and they need to see more than just blurbs from anti-Ritalin websites. And the parents who do post here deserve respect and to feel they are trying to help their kids---and to see that they are! :) Have a nice night. There is a vest called "Bink Vest" it is generally used during OT therapy. My son has one and it works wonders. It's main purpose is to provide the child with a stress release for his energy. The vest is put on for 20 min and taken off for 2 hr. then reaplied. When my son is to active I use this and it helps. If you would like to have more info e-mail me.I don't mind people who want to try alternatives. For ADHD, meds aren't mandatory. I do think a lot of these "newbies" are leftovers from that e-mail group of people who hate meds and think diet and supplements help disorders, which is fine. To each, his own, as long as they don't sprew anti-med stuff. The mom who said "you s*ck" sounds like an immature college kid. Everyone here is doing what they feel is best. And nobody here, including anyone who namecalls, knows for certain that he/she is helping his/her child reach the max and each child is different. The final result (the adult child) isn't there yet. It remains to be seen what works best. Trust me, we all do our best, but you can't predict how the kids will turn out, even without ADHD or other disorders. I've raised three to adulthood and have had a few surprises! I suspect many here will also be surprised. It is easy to control diet, supplements, meds when a child is under 10, and not possible once a child is 14 as they will do what they like as a teen, at least outside the home. To act condenscending is pointless. Kids with ADHD are much more likely to do illegal drugs, and that includes those who are not medicated. Judge others after your child is 21 and has done well. Just a thought. Binfomred and Sunny, my son was misdiagnosed with ADHD, so I'm not dealing with ADHD, however, I believe (and you may correct me if I'm wrong if you have a neutral site to post info from) that medicated kids with ADHD are less apt to abuse recreational drugs as a teenager than non-medicated kids. I believe I read this when my son was young and had the ADHD diagnosis. Of course, I could have forgotten. I know for a fact that this is true of bipolar disorder. Have a good day and, until your children are adults, try not to judge the choices others make. Treating these disorders is a crapshoot for everybody.OlderMom38859.7602546296

My son's psychiatrist orderd  a glucose tolerance test for our son.  He found in his testing that our son has reactive hypoglycemia.  As a result we have met with a nutritionist and are really looking at ways to help our son.  This condition can be related to ad/hd.  We make sure our son gets a low sugar diet/excluding white flours etc and substituting whole wheat products etc... We also include protein in most all of his snacks and meals.  Our son is on medicine but a low dose since as we are trying to really look at the nutritional end of ad/hd.  Our pychiatrist also recommended a QEEG test that determined that he indeed demonstrated the characteristics of ad/hd.  This is what ultimately helped us in making our decision to medicate and do a healthy nutrion plan for our child.  My ex finally saw that this was necessary after he saw tests results.

we are trying  homeopathy, play therapy, behavioral therapy and taking parental classes.we are trying everything else first

he is only 4 but all this doesn't help his attention span, only help the behavior.ultimately when he starts school we maybe have to put him on a low dose of meds.i hope we don't have to but he will not follow at school the way he is now.the other solution would be to put him in a special school.

he also have no sense of danger and if a low dose of meds will stop him to try to jump out of the window or run in front of a car, then i will try it.but i am not too keen on it i must admit.try everythingelse first and keep your minds opened

i have just be diagnosed with ADD so i will be the guinea pig.

ihe also have a non sugar, non preservative diet.

Thanks to 4myson and scotmama's advises!

I will be watch out his diet more carefully from now on, but other than that I can't do much here. There are limited resources and facilities to help a child with adhd in China. We move here three years ago, that is the starting point when my son has changed to a different person. I don't know what to do and I tried to talk him out when he was out of control. Of course, it didn't work that well.  I talked to two doctors when I was in Taiwan. However, it didn't help much either. I think most people in Asia are still don't know much about ADHD, so there are not much that I can do here. In addition, my husband don't believe his eight years old son is that serious and believe it's just a phase, and eventually it will phase out itself.

I don't know and it's so hard to deal with my son when he doesn't pay attention, listen, and concentrate when he is at home and school. He drives me crazy sometimes.  What else I can do to help him?  My 4 years old daughter starts to learn everything from her brother.

I refused to put my son on meds... I saw how other children were on them, and I couldn't do that to my son.  The school tried to force me to put him on drugs.  So I started reading.  I am still researching for a support group I'm getting ready to start.  I have my son on a couple of different supplements daily and we keep him away from preservatives, artificial colors and flavors, and unnatural ingredients.  (basically)  I have lots of useful information, if anyone would like to e-mail me.    God Bless!

Hello,

My kid has ADHD, but he is not using any medication. Is there any suggestion for a kid with ADHD and don't want to use any medication to treat the disorder. My husband is strongly against to use any medication on my son.

Thanks!

i agree with 4myson,you should respect others choices and not try to bully others to your opinion.

worrymum, since it is difficult for you to get help in china, maybe you could try the alternative board and see if you can order them online.

there is a book called the explosive child who could help you,if you can't get it online,pm me i will send mine to you as i don't need it since my son is 4 and it is more directed to your son's age.

i think your answer lies with homeopathy as (i could be wrong)china is quite big on herbal medecine.

Worry Mom, Welcome!

As for alternatives, you might check on the Alternatives and Complimentary medicines board.  Many of us have had good results with the high EPA omega 3's and magnesium, homeopathy, crawling exercises to correct an immature STNR reflex, etc.  Of course, please make sure to get a complete physical also, including blood work to check sugars, magnesium and zinc levels (you have to ask for the mag and zinc as it's not normally included), etc., and I think most folks here would reccommed an evaluation by a neuropsych to determine for ADHD and/or other learning issues.

I had only started  my son on meds to save himself from himself!  One day he hyperfocused on fixing his pen with a scissors and he slashed is finger open to the tune of 4 stitches.  We are not using meds anymore, and had really good results with omegas, and he just started the Dore program here in the states which are exercises that stimulate the brain and eliminate the symptoms of ADHD.

So, there's a lot of things out there to try, but none of them are a really quick fix, they take time.  Make sure he gets that physical and evaluation first, and go from there.

sunny girl ... you refuse...I have to wonder why you would "refuse"

Is it your life we're talking about or your childs?  Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  I just ask that people with such strong opinions such as yours consider that and not be so judgemental.  I've read several of our posts and I have a hard time respecting what you say.

Children deserve what is is best for them.  With proper handling wether it is medicine, diet, or whatever else there may be is what a child needs.  Not judgemental opinions.
