An ADD Moment and a Red Leather Chair | ADHD Information
Well, yet another embarrassing moment. Yesterday I was at my sister's for my neice's 6th B-day party. Everyone was having a nice time and everything seemed to be going well until the incident.
My sister just put up a large above the ground pool. It was a bit chilly but a bunch of people decided to go swimming anyway, including my daughter. When she got out of the pool, it turned out that my H had never brought the bag with a change of clothes from the car and he had left to go to church because he had to work today so she had no change of clothes until he came back.
My sister & brother-n-law's computer is in the den and my daughter decided to sit in the chair and play a game on the computer. Well, the chair is leather. She just wasn't thinking at all. Besides the fact that in our own house we have nothing fancy but my sister does like and have expensive things. My other "younger" sister(who tends to be a bossy know it all at times), was also at the party and saw my daughter sitting in the chair and jumped on her case, yelling at her and telling her she should know better then to sit on a leather chair when wet and then chided me. She embarrassed my daughter and made me feel like a bad mother and a total idiot. I realize I should have been paying better attention but didn't appreciate my younger sister's reaction. I let her have it and told her that I am the parent and that I would speak to my daughter and who does she think she is. I told her to button it and that it wasn't her place. Boy was I teed off. It made me realize how I sometimes take for granted that my almost 12 year old ADD daughter will know the right thing.
Turns out my brother-n-law wasn't upset at all and it dried and looked fine. His wife, my sister, got a little annoyed but got over it and was relieved when it dried. My younger sister and I patched things up, but I let her know in no uncertain terms what her place is. She just about ruined the day for me and I still feel stupid for letting it happen. Makes me not even want to go over my sisters' houses for fear some accident will happen again. It just really bothered me and made me feel inferior. Still feeling the sting a little today. Thanks so much for reading my post. Just needed to vent. Dee

I hear ya! I'm glad you patched things up with your sister though. I mean, please remember you all, it's just a stupid chair, and not as important as our gentle ones' feelings and denting the relationship.
Thanks for the replies girls. It's been a while since an incident bothered me like that and I appreciate your support very much. I'm over it but will be sure to be on my guard more when I'm at other folks homes.
I can't believe your sister would do that. I hate to admit it, but what is wrong with sitting in a leather chair when you are wet? If she had sat on a cloth upholstered chair, I can understand where she should have known that it could damage it. As it is, leather furniture is treated with stuff so it isn't as fragile as your sister seemed to think. I'm sure that to your daughter, it looked like the best choice of furniture.ADD or not what Kid hasn't done something like that? Dee, some people think ''Things'' are more important then People. Isn't that crazy ?
