Thank God for Insurance | ADHD Information

I've spent most of today shell-shocked.  I filled my son's first prescription for Adderall XR today, and nearly bit my tongue off when I saw the cost!  I had forgotten to give the tech my insurance card, so she originally rang it up as a cash payment.  1  dollars for 45 days!!!!  AAAGGGHHH!!  How do people without  insurance deal with costs like these?!  I feel like, they probably don't, and as a result, their children can't get help.  And I'm not talking about those who qualify for some sort of medical assistance program, I'm talking about the working middle class who is making it, but can't possibly afford thousands of dollars a year.  What a tragedy for the those middle class parents who don't have jobs with insurance (and more and more companies don't offer insurance benefits) and what a bigger tragedy for their children who may really need medication.

thank god for the nhs

kids don't pay for meds until they are 16

Last month my son had about 0 worth of meds.  We are currently receiving Medicaid for him....the only reason we qualify is because my hubby is his stepdad and his real father is not in the picture so somehow that qualifies him.  However, within the next six months we will have to report an income change and we will lose the Medicaid for him.  We have no insurance, and no hopes of getting private insurance as everybody we talk to tell us there is no way the underwriter's will agree to cover our kids.  I dont' know what we're gonna do then

sorry to hear that

jude gets disability allowance about 0 a month do you not get anything like that in the usa?

I like think of myself as an "earn it for yourself" kind of person, but how, HOW can any med cost so much.  I don't believe that drivel about research costs, either, or that bunk about investing in future medication research.  I feel like the pharms are telling us, "You're going to pay through your nose today so that someday we'll have anothert product on the market.  Any company takes a portion of their profits and puts it into R&D, but the day Orville Reddenbacher (for example) tells me that I'm paying more now for a better popcorn years from now, is the day I stop eating popcorn.  Unfortunately, the pharms have us over a barrell, as we often MUST have the meds.

Bill Clinton had major difficulties, but he knew that the medical situation in the US needs serious overhaul.

My 13 yr old son is on a 30 day trial of the newer Focalin XR.  He is on a high dose (60mg  twice a day - he metabolizes meds quickly) that was prescribed by his pediatric psychiatrist.   We have insurance, but I was shocked that the cash price of this med was over 0 for the 30 days.    My insurance paid all but 8.   Crazy.
