Adderal Addictive? | ADHD Information

Hello,

My 6 year old nephew has been taking Strattera for about 2 months,and since then his dosage has been increased. He is now taking 40mg. It doesn't seem to be working for him though. He is having a real hard time at school. They have called the second time today wanting him to be picked up,and brought home. He seemed to be alot better on the adderal, but was put on strattera cause I heard that over time he would become dependant on adderal. Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks for any help you can give, Melanie

Melanie, usually stimulants like ritalin and adderall are only addictive and cause dependence if abused or taken in extremely high doses.

if addiction or dependence occurs, the doctor can slowely taper the dose down and ween the patient off the med.

I wouldnt worry.

Ive been on concerta (methilphenidate) 54 mgs for abt 6 mts and dont feel dependence. the med however seems to have lost much of its original effectiveness.
