The circle of life :) | ADHD Information

Hello all, i'm new here and my name is Tyna. My son Ewan Jakob is 6 yrs old and has ADHD. I also have another son Jory 11 yrs, Autistic/blind but that is another story :) Ewan is a handful! Being on 27 mgs of Concerta doesn't always help, LOL. Here is the reason for my post tho: I was raised by a a single mom, who spanked very very hard (extension cords etc...) SO I try not to ever spank the boys. It does happen once in a blue moon, with my hand on a bare tush, but very rare. Anyway one day I was trimming Jory's hair (a very hard thing to do) and Ewan kept begging for a haircut too. Normally, that would be fine. Except his hair was already short and was just growing into the "cute" phase so I said no. A quick trip down memory lane, please bear with me, LOL. When I was 6, my mother went to Hawaii with then Step Dad. I was left in the care of my older sisters (16 & 17). I had hair down past my waist. Now, being a child of the 70's I wanted to look like Dorothy Hamil (sp)she was an ice skater from along time ago, with a bowl haircut. Anyway I locked myself in the bathroom, took the scissors and proceeded to chop of my long long hair, all jagged and horrible! WHen my mother came back, she was so angry she spanked my butt raw, and took me to the beauty parlor for a real bad bowl haircut. SHe also threatend to spank me again if I ever did that again (which of course I did 4 yrs later trying to make "bangs" LOL but anyway...) SO fast forward to Ewan begging for a a haircut and I said no, Ewan finds a pair of scissors and cuts whats left of the front of his head to the SCALP. He came in my room to kiss me goodnight and I wanted to kill him! After fuming for what felt like forever (but was like 10 minutes) I started to laugh. I laughed so hard I started to tear up! My husband thought I lost my mind, LOL. I told him the Dorothy Hamil story, also on how I felt after I did it. So instead of "killing" Ewan I said" You look so bad! SInce you did this to yourself (after I had warned him never ever to touch scissors) you should go to school that way, and all the kids are going to laugh at you! After he begged us to fix it, and he did the "I solemly swear NEVER EVER to cut my own hair etc..." I did what I could. I also called my mom and had a good laugh.

Thanks for the reminder that a little humor goes a long way in a tough situation.  It was great of you to turn it around like that and then HE realized himself what a dodo he was!  I doubt he'll ever do it again.  Thanks for sharing your story.

 

    Your a great story teller.  You had me hooked right off the bat. Some sad stuff though about you getting spanked.
