Hi I am a mother of two children diagnosed with ADHD. My son has been on everything ritlin, concerta, adderall, and is currently on provigil. He's been taking this for almost a year. The first 6 months he was doing great, his anxiety was less, his behavor was greatly improved and his grades were much better. The Dr. upped his prescription the last time we went in because the effects of the dosage had lessened. I was told that hes taking the largest dose allowed for children his age, since it hasnt been approved for use on ADHD. Dr. says that if this does not work then were out of options. Well its not working. I had asked for Strattera after my son developed a nervous tick on stimulamt drugs. I was told that Strattera is only beneficial if you have difficulty with behavioral issues and sitting still. That sort of thing. It will not help with grades. So the Dr. put him on the provigil. I was wondering if anyone had a positive result on grades and behavior with their children while using Strattera. I was also told that I could give fish oil tablets with the provigil and that might help, but Dr. said that the risk of choking on the pill would be more likely to happen since its a large pill, then any benifits i might be looking to achieve.
My daughter has taken Strattera for about 10 months with some success after getting depressed on Concerta. She is better behavior-wise, but in school, she was sharper on the stimulants. This is not to say that Strattera hasn't helped, but just not to the same extent. Good luck!
