Thank You ya'll for your help !

 I am going shopping tomorrow

Are game cubes expensive?  I hear kids talk about them but never have looked  into them.  I like the idea of zero violance game.

gamecubes aren't very expensive now (and there are lots on ebay and in pawn shops).

Nintendo has built itself on non-violent alternative games.  Games like mario party (great for groups of kids), puzzle games, harvest moon, etc. are all built exclusively for the nintendo systems.

Check out the games as they all have the MSRB ratings now.  E for everyone means totally non-violent and no adult content.  Safe for all kids.

Nintendo also is great for younger kids that can't read or are just learning.  Many games don't need to be read at all now.

We started out with the leapster...he was fine with this and actually did learn a few things...no violence...now he has a game boy and just got a book that teaches the tricks for cracking to code  ( the secret moves)...he loves it and is READING for information...my ds is almost 7

I agree with the pick of harvest moon for gamecube - it's very G rated with zero violence and is built on exploration and building things.

For the PC  The Sims is very good.  So is roller coaster tycoon (all the tycoons are good actually).

Can someone show your son what to do?  My daughter had daddy help her so now she knows how to play the game.  She cannot do everything and does get mad but I tell her that is life.Michel72, let us know what you bought and how it's working out.

Thanks for the replies,

Ds is enjoying Harvest moon is a wonderful life more than the Animal Crossing.  He has figure out more things every day, he has been playing for 3 days now.

I really like it.     On the Mario games he gets very nervous and sometimes mad and fustrated when he is loosing, I stay away from those, we had some pretty bad days when he just to play those.

My seven-year-old adhd-er son says,"Mario games, any and all Disney games, stuff like that for a five-year-old."  He also wants to know what game system and says that some games from the older systems, like SuperNintendo or N64, might be better because they are easier "'cause the controllers were easier."

Seriously, video games are important business in our house!

We got the Harvest moon and also the Animal crossing,

So far we only tried the Animal crossing but the problem we are having is that there is a lot of reading and my ds can not read yet. He is 5.

It is a very neat game. We will see if he can figure it out.

We are trying the other game next, the harvest moon and see if we have better luck.

Any more suggestions for games for a 5yr old?

i got my son a vtech that plugs to the tv,he is 4

My son is the same way, so i got him into simulation games:

Gamecube:

Harvest Moon: Magical Melody - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvest_Moon:_Magical_Melody

Animal Crossing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_crossing

These are very cute games...especially the harvest moon one.

Can You please give me some ideas of games my son 5 yrs old could play that is fairly easy to play and would not get fustrated.

He loves the Mario Bro. type games but he gets very very mad when he looses.

But he  LOVES to play !   I took the Nintendo away from him because it was getting to be to much of a problem.  So he has not play in about 6 months, but everytime he gets a chance at someone elses house he get excited and is all over that.

 Thanks in advance

our psy told us to stop the video games and to also cut down TV time.,he says aADHD kids love computers because the speed matches how their mind work, even the learning ones are not good for them.he said 1/2 of computer gives 4 to 5 hours of hyperactivity.he also said he need to use his imagination more.

I am not sure if he is right,we already stopped the TV and computer games before bedtime and it improved so we are giving it a go.

he plays more with his toys and outside,i can say he does use his imagination more but it has not made a difference with his hyperactivity.

Michel72-My son and I have found a balance-for every hour he plays vid games he ows me an hour of excercise-bike riding, running around outside, ect....At forst he didn't like the idea, but know he is used to it.  He still gets frustrated at loosing-adhd symptom?-I've learned to know when enough is enough and guide him into something else to do-usualy physical so he can get his frustrations out.

scotmama-our therapist said video games/tv were ok as long as we balance the time-1 hour tv-1 hour outside activity.  He said the same thing about computer as yours, but that included the vid games too.

My son shares the Xbox with his Dad, but lately my son has taken the XBOX over.  He loves playing Blinx, Sponge Bob.  Fusion Frenzy.  We also bought him Leapster.  He loves Leapster (which is more educational).  His favorite games are I Spy, Spiderman, Finding Nemo & Spongebob.

Its been a while since my last post.

NOW HE CAN NOT STOP playing Harvest Moon (wonderful life) , in this short amount of time he has been playing he has learn things that I really never thought about, like the value of money, how to save money in order to buy things, what it is to have responsabilities, etc..

He is only 5 and I am very happy about all the things he is learning, the only problem is that he does not want to stop playing.  Now my husband, bussiness man, never played a video game in his life, well I find him playing with it.

It was the funniest thing.

Anyways, I am going to start using a timer, and see if that works.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Do you think it's better for him to be playing the videogame, he is very calm when doing this,  or  fighting all day with his little brother who is 3, when they are together is a war, fights and fights, very stressful.

Ofcourse we go to the swimming pool for about 1-2 hours, we go out maybe to the store or to eat some place, but the rest of the day what ?

he just to watch TV alot, now he does not care for it.
