Anyone done Yoga with their kids? | ADHD Information

My son (7 yo)has trouble in school getting agitated easily.  He's already on 54mg of Concerta.  He argues with the teacher and other students and won't let something go.

The last two years whenever I notice him getting agitated I tell him to take 3 deep breaths.  A few days ago he found some Yoga cards that I had and wanted to try them.  I thought this was a great time to explain to him why the deep breaths were important for him.  I told him that when he feels like his body and heart are running too fast that if he takes slow, deep breaths that it's his own way of controlling his body.  It's like telling the body to slow down.  He seemed to really like that explanation.  I told him he could do that at school but he had to keep it a secret.  He tends to tell the world about new things and then ends up getting in trouble because he's talking too much about things and disrupting class.  The next day he said he used the breathing.

I found a book online called Yogakids : teaching the whole child.  The description mentioned using it for kids with ADHD.  When it arrives I'm hoping to start doing a few poses and breathing with him every night before bed.

Anyone else ever tried Yoga with your ADHD kid?  I'm interested in hearing anyone elses experiences.  I feel like he feels like everything is out of his control and that this could be a tool that he could use to have at least some "control" when he feels out of control.

Ds needs one more PE class before he graduates next year.  Guess what he picked? You betcha...Yoga.  I didn't even know he was interested in it.  I heard it is very good.  I wanted to do it with my son, I even got his friend and his mom to agree to go, but he still doesn't want to do it.Finally, I talked my son into attending a yoga class this year.  He complained and said he didn't like it because it made him too relaxed  .i do yoga for myself --- and i like it a lot, the exercise is great but it does absolutely zip for any of my ADD symptoms in terms of "fog" motivation, clarity, time management, executive function skills, memory and all the rest... nothing!

i am not ADHD though.

i am inattentive ADD.  and excepting the exercise part (any exercise is helpful) yoga doesn't help my ADD symptoms at all.  at all.

but i like it anyway!  and i don't think it makes them worse either ---
