Effexor and crying | ADHD Information

Share
I took Paxil (and Prozac) for several years and found while taking it I was unable to cry...at all! I'm talking about not even being able to cry when I lost a good friend to cancer (no tears, just sticks in my throat and hurts).    I've heard of this occuring to other people, as well.

I've recently weaned off Paxil and just started taking Effexor, and wanted to know if anyone taking Effexor has a problem with not being able to cry. I'll be really unhappy if I have the same results with Effexor.

Right before I started Effexor this week, I actually cried a little one day. It felt so good! Prozac made me to sleepy. I hear effexor is bad stuff. Montel williams even did a show on it and its effects. It was bad. Try Celexa it is suppose to have no side effects or very little. Did the show on Montel talk about children or adults who were taking Effexor? Was it adults who had the side effects (other than sweating)? I ask because I've read that it's not recommended children take it.

The only reason I'm trying it is I was taking a mood stabilzer (Carbatrol, not tegretol) for five years, and it's worked wonders on my moods, anger, etc., along with Paxil, which also worked well for me as an antidepressant except the for my not being able to cry while on it (Paxil). However, thanks to Medicare's new Part D Drug Program , the plan I just chose and joined specificially because they covered Carbatrol removed it from their forumulary drug list within a week of me joining! And I can't change plans until November.

So since Effexor is supposed to be an antidepressant and work with symptoms of ADHD, and on mood, anger, compulsiveness, etc., my psych med nurse wants me to try it along with Adderall. If I find I begin having unsavory side effects, of course I will wean off it, and perhaps try tegratol, which isn't as effective or as smooth as carbatrol.

Or even just stop ALL meds and live like I have for many years, albeit not very happy. GypsyWomyn38867.5628356481

I've been taking 250mg of Effexor for the last four months now and I’ve had some ok results. My problem is I forget to take it. As for side effects, I’ve only experienced one. I don't want to go into detail but it is a sexual side effect and it's not impotence.

I have been on 37.5 mg of effexor xr x 3 daily for nearly 5 years and I'm finally stepping it down to once daily.  Not to scare you but just do a search of "effexor side effects" and you'll find a whole world of truth hidden in half truths and rumors.  It's bad stuff, I think I know about Funky's side effect, I'm a 28 year old guy and effexor completely ruined my desire for sex for years (in conjunction with rabid pot smoking).  I just lost a young nephew and found myself more able to cry than I used to when my dose was higher.  I am in the process of trying to get off of effexor alltogether but the  withdrawal symptoms are hell, you get paresthesia, that shocky upper body feeling you get before you get the flu and your mood fluctuates wildly.  Best of luck, but know that there are better alternatives to effexor for depression. My wife takes Effexor and claims it's a miracle med for her. She's been on it for a few years. The only negative being low energy, but she has additional issues that affect her energy level.
