Hi,
If any of you all remember our story our boys were in foster care for three years and we have full custody of them. Well my youngest is 7 now and has tbi and adhd he is in special education for ed and tbi as well as speech. We wanted to change his school last year but since he was still in foster care they would not let us. Now that we have full custody we would still like to. We want him in a school closer to home, we feel this school has done the best they can and would like to transfer him to another one where my other son is. They have done such a wonderful job with my middle child who is adhd, tbi is in special education for emr2. And maybe being at the same school with his brother would help as well. Also since they know about us more. How would i go about changing schools?? I live in northern virginia. What if he school fights it??I know they love my son, but we are thinking about his future, we want to put him in the best environment where he will flourish. You know :)
tbi is traumatic brain injury, but he recieves special services through ed and speech. He has just been through so much and i think he deserves to go to a school where they will better understand him, and not think cause he sticks his tongue out goofy when he is thinking, is a behavioral problem etc There his quirks what makes him my son. And he does not do them all the time, now yes he also has alot of fustration and is very easily angered esp if he has to go back and make corrections. But he is doing awesome for a boy who they held back, and said he would never be on reading level and now he is(16) :) I think part of the problem is cause he is not being stimulated enough, but his behavior holds him back since a reg teacher would not be able to take care of him and teach him. grrrrrr sorry its just been a very long battle, as i am sure you all know with your own circumstances. I just wish they could see all that glitters inside of him. This boy was putting together tangrams at age 4 and couldn't even speak or toilet.
charlesandginny,
I think this is a good idea if there is a program at that school that meets the needs of your child. Being close to home is important and also it is important to go to school with the kids in your neighborhood...
