intro/newly diagnosed | ADHD Information

Hello
I was diagnosed with ADD a week ago Monday.  I went to a psychologist because of my severe depression.  He ended up giving me an ADD test and an intelligence test. He gave me the ADD test after talking to me and getting my history so I must have shown some signs of having ADD.

I started on generic ADDERALL on Thursday.  So this is all so new to me!  I am glad I found this board to get ideas and support from other people who are adults who have this illness.  What is funny is that my husband has ADD as well.

Thank you and I will enjoy reading and learning the other posts.

welcome to the board.  Your husband is ADD?  So he understands what you go through.  that's good.  Did your doc give you any anti-depressants too?

Hi LMT,

Welcome from me too.  I'm pretty sure both of my parents had ADD and they passed it on to me.  I think sometimes ADD/ADHD people are just naturally attracted to each other as they sense something similar and familiar about each other.  Interestingly enough, we found out recently that my daughter's best friend, who she's known since 1st grade, is ADHD.  My daughter is ADD.  My H has two of us to deal with but seems to do pretty well.  Sometimes I wonder if he has it too.  I'm really glad I found this board too.  Have a great week and keep on posting .  Dee

My husband was diagnosed first!

I went to the doctor for depression and I was already on 40 mg prozac..and my depression has improved.  I did not notice much difference on the 20 mg dose.

I am on 10mg adderall and it is great when it makes me focus..but it doesnt seem like it lasts that long.  I do go back in on 06-15 to take the ADD test on medication.  That should be a good indicator if I am on the right dose.

My psychologist said my depression was because of my ADD.  He said I have been overcompensating for so long that I finally crashed.  The more I read about ADD the more I go..wow that IS ME!

Welcome!! Are you "regular" ADD or Inattentive type? Im inattentive. Im curious what the name of the tests are your doc is giving you,  do they have a "name" or are they just tests your doctor gives when he feels there is ADD/ADHD present, if ya remeber, let me know.

When i was diagnosed a few motnhs back, my doc started me on the generic Adderall too, i think 20 mg a day twice a day now im at 30 mg twice a day and am sure i need more, or something else, i love Adderall, but it doesnt seem to be working like it did inthe beginning, so again, welcome and good luck!

hi all

i was diagnosed just over a year ago, and to be blunt i have recieved little or no help from the NHS, yes thats right im from the uk!  i am having to set up my own support and awareness group in my home town to even try to get some help!!!! To be honest i feel more lost and lonely now than i did before the diagnosis when i thought i was just a freak!!!! startted on ritalin, and wow it was fantastic, was like i was given a second chance at life, for once i was able to have a little control of myself, and people around me noticed and liked the change in me, however the NHS will not prescribe or treat me untill they have been able to sit down drink tea have lunch and only then if they decide they dont want an afternoon nap in a hotel at our expence, they might discuss the matter!!!!

All right another X test flunkee! lol  Every time I clicked an X I was like "AGH!!"  I knew I clicked a bunch...but not a third of them! lol

Oh, I think that I clicked on a lot more than a third!  I think that I only missed clicking on 1 or 2 of them.  It's so hard not to!  I would jump each time when I realized that I had clicked on the X!

I think I am inattentive type..but I am not sure.  As soon as the doctor told me I sort of went into this state of shock.  I am going to make a list of questions I want to ask when I go back later this month.

My psychologist went through my life history, prior school, job performances, etc.  I guess he though I might have add so he gave me a test on the computer.  I dont know the name of the test except it was a "Dont Click on the X" test.  lol There was a black screen and letters would flash up at varying intervals and you were to click the left mouse button EXCEPT when there was an X.

The doctor joked that I "found" a third of the x'es.  lol  After I did that they gave me an intelligence test and I tested as "gifted" range.  That "X" test also tested your resposnse times, etc.  It tested more than what I thought it was.

Of course at the time of the tests I did not know I was getting and ADD test or an intelligence test.  I was going for depression.

i am also from the uk,but so far i don't have any complaint,i went to my gp and got a psy appt 2 weeks later i am still waiting for neurologue.

Welcome to the forum.  There their...I hate spelling and grammer...Anyway life exists egzists Did I mention that I can't spell, and my grammer stinks...One still lives after finding out they (are/have) ADHD.

There is life after ADHD.
Life still exists after ADHD DX.

I wasn't paying attention in my english class....or social studies, math, science,..

LMT, welcome!  You are the only other person that I have heard mention that they had taken the "X" test.  It is one of the Conner's tests, but I can't remember the rest of the name.  I took it a couple of months ago.  It not only checks for attentiveness, but impulsivity and a lot of other things.  I, too, clicked on a lot of X's.
