Adderall XR Dosage Question | ADHD Information

His dose of 60mg a day was in the therautic range. For his weight the range would be 23mg to 77mg a day (.3 to 1.0 times body weight in kilos). However, if is so different for so many that it's really impossible to say what is appropriate for someone.

I need a dose above the thraputic range and I know adults who do well on very low doses of 10-20mg a day. The measure I would recommend is trying the determine the dose based on positive results balanced against side-effects (like problems sleeping). If he gets a posiutive benefit at 25mg with little or no side-effects, he should stay at that dose.

My 16 year old son was dx with ADD and been on Adderall XR for 2 years.  Doctor originally had him take 60 mg 1x/day - it was too much so we've been over the past couple of years reducing the amount.  I questioned the high dosage several times, but was told dosing is determined by weight (my son is 170 lbs). 

Now he's taking 25 mg at his request (he doesn't like the higher dosage - too much trouble sleeping and no appetite), but I'm not sure it's the appropriate amount.  We will be addressing with his dr again this summer, but before doing so I'd like to hear what others may think or have experienced.
