My 4 year old son is taking Ritlan and we are have a hard time getting him to gain weight.
Anyone else use PediaSure? My son is having a hard time getting the taste of it. I have even used the recipes on their website. He will start off okay, but quickly does not like it.
we use carnation instant breakfast as a supplement ....we do not use inplace of meal but rather as the beverageWe have used Carnation Instant Breakfast and Ensure with our daughter-usually with her snack. She sometimes will tire of a certain flavor, and we have to try other flavors.
The french vanilla makes a good base for other smoothies...we sometimes add in cinnamon, pumpkin, or fruit ( blueberries) and blend in the blender.
I have a friend who adds peanutbutter to the chocolate flavor ( I think this sounds yummy)
This sounds like a great idea. Do these have alot of calories in them? Do you use it in place of a multivitamin? Certainly seems like something I should try, since my son has lost 4 pounds, and is completely turned off of food lately.

Thank you everyone for your ideas....I will give them a try...with whole milk the calories is about 280 ( and as you add things it increases)...I don't know if this will replace a multi vitamin or not....
my son does like the pedisure vanillla ( they are probably better for you than carnation instant breakfast) but I think they are just too expensive and I hate to see him waste them..
Mali - Since I have been giving him the PediaSure we are really struggling to even get a meal down. He will drink a little and then refuse any more. I have tried the recipes and there is not much more success there. If I put on the table as his drink, he gets frustrated cause it tastes bad then he does not want to eat.
I thought these were kid tested kid approved? How do I get him to happily drink and enjoy and not ruin his taste for food altogether? And how much is appropriate for 1 day?

When we tried to give my daughter PediaSure, she actually cried, it tasted so bad! She seems to drink the Ensure better for some reason.
I think the recommended amount on the PediaSure is 2 cans per day, as it is with the Ensure. My daughter has always done well to get one can down. If a child drank two, I don't think that they would be hungry for real food!
My daughter likes the chocolate pediasure. I try to give her two a day. She drinks part of one with breakfast, and usually a whole one with her bedtime snack. She has gained a couple of pounds, but still only weighs 60lbs and is 4ft. 4in. I let her eat fattening foods, but she never eats a lot of anything. I would love to see her gain 10 lbs!!!My daughter is so picky she will drink carnation instant breakfast but only vanilla flavor and when she tires of it will refuse all until she is in the mood for it again. She too needs to put on some weight. As for ensure have not tried it for if I buy it and she refuses to drink it because it is too sweet. I sometimes buy her vanilla ice cream and make milkshakes that helps until she tires of that too. My son actually likes the Pediasure. We had to do something because he was not gaining any weight. Since he has been on it, he has gained two pounds, which may not sound like a lot but, believe me its a start. Don't lose faith it does workMs. Kitty - did he like it at first? And did youfind that it worked?
