Does what they say make sense? | ADHD Information

AZMOM, I remember questioning the same thing when my DS (now 8) was younger. He was very verbal, excellent vocabulary, very bright, but he often made NO SENSE at all. I think his mind was just racing miles ahead of his voice. He is still the same way, but not as bad. Now we're really starting to try to make him realize it and be aware of it so he can attempt to self-correct. Eventually peers are going to make life difficult for him if he doesn't. When he's medicated, this goes away.

Does anyone else have a kid who says stuff that does not make sense?

Like banana head? or I guess I don't have a real good example off the top of my head, but he is frequently saying inappropriate things or things that don't make sense?

We CAN help more if you give an example. Does he blurt things out for no reason? Will he shout "Banana head" in school while the class is quietly working? Does he shout things out in inappropriate settings? Does he copy what he hears on television? Can he hold a good give-and-take conversation and does he have decent/passable social skills? Also, how old is he?OlderMom38874.3184375 Definately!  He is 17 and it has always been this way.  Except that he usually reserved this just for our family or the neighborhood.  but mind you this behavior was off medication.  and does it make sense?  in a remote way yes..he has always brought a very unique perspective to discussions  (teachers have complimented him on this)  yet at home off meds can be very frustrating to try to communicate with.

when he was young if you asked where something was, the answer was always "on your head"   or in playing "I Spy" in the car on road trips, his thing that we could never guess was usually "a cheetah" (there are no cheetahs outside our car in North America) I read something once in an old book, The Now Child, before adhd was the label, which sounded very similar to "on your head" ...where the parent said if I hear "on the --" one more time, I think i will go crazy!  I certainly identify with that.  The book was interesting because it tried to describe the "hyperactive" child from the parents', teacher's and child's perspective.   Sorry for rambling but perhaps if you asked how what he said connected, it might just make sense.
Hang in there!

Oh yes, I get more comments from other adults about how mature my kids are...they save up to let loose the craziness at home...altho my dh says I encourage them
