Meds

 Hello

I am looking for some information and advice on ADHD med's.  I have over the last year decided to but my son on med's for ADHD.   My son is 7 and was dx at 3 with it.  I have a handle on it at home but he needs something to get him through the day at school.  He has been on Concerta starting at 18 mg then going to 27 mg, he was then but on Medadate 30 mg.  I am so new to this I don't know how he suppose to behave when he is coming down off the med's.  For such a happy child he always seems so sad at the end of the day.  These med's have helped remarkable in school, he is above his grade level in just about everything. I decided to take him off the meds because of his crying outbursts and lack of sleep. I am working with a great pshy and counselor along with his GP, but I am looking for some parent input.  Can anyone tell me how there child acts when coming off these med's so I have am idea of what "normal" is?

I don't know if staying on the Concerta 18mg (with worked the best) or changing him to Adderall is the way to go?

Thanks

This is such a difficult issue, I know..... we've been through the gamit of meds....... My son was on Concerta and it worked "ok"..... he still had problems with focus and concentration in school so we went to Adderall........ Actually works about the same for him. I am trying to find out more about FocalinXR. That's the only one we haven't tried...... Good luck!!!!!!!i HEAR BEHAVIOR MANAGMENT IS BETTER THAN MEDS. i ALSO HEAR ATTENTION PROBLEMS ARE A SYMPTOM OF OTHER DISORDERS. gET A nP EVALUATION FIRST. FORCE SCHOOL TO PAY THIS THRU SE. wE BY PASS SCHOOL WHEN WE NEED HELP ANYMORE WE GO STRAIGHT TO SE DIRECTER.

My daughter is 9 and started at 7 with ritalin 10 mg.  It wore off by 1 so we began to use Concerta 20 and then Concerta 30 all time release.  This was with a new school year and teacher complained about FOCUS - continually.  So we were sent to a psyc. who prescribed ADDerall xr basically no change we went from 10mg to 20mg and after 4 months of trial and error she lost 10lbs. in 10 days over the Christmas holidays.  For my child to go from a size 12 - to and 8 in 10 days really scared us.  The doc said it was ok, she would plateau, after the next month, she lost another 3lbs.  I made the choice to switch and stay with the medicine now which seems to be working great and she has gained all of her normal weight back, shes actually a 14 now, a tall size 14.  Focalin 15 mg is what we are using.  I just had to learn to give it in applesauce not yogurt, made a lot of difference.
