Need some input please | ADHD Information

Hello

I am looking for some information and advice on ADHD med's. I have over the last year decided to but my son on med's for ADHD. My son is 7 and was dx at 3 with it. I have a handle on it at home but he needs something to get him through the day at school. He has been on Concerta starting at 18 mg then going to 27 mg, he was then but on Medadate 30 mg. I am so new to this I don't know how he suppose to behave when he is coming down off the med's. For such a happy child he always seems so sad at the end of the day. These med's have helped remarkable in school, he is above his grade level in just about everything. I decided to take him off the meds because of his crying outbursts and lack of sleep. I am working with a great pshy and counselor along with his GP, but I am looking for some parent input. Can anyone tell me how his or her child acts when coming off these med's so I have is idea of what "normal" is?

I don't know if staying on the Concerta 18mg (with worked the best) or changing him to Adderall is the way to go?

Thanks

also you could try food....to ease the re-bound...most likley he is hungry because the med effects the appetitie

my son did so much better on Adderall then on the meds in the ritalin family...

but all kids are different some kids have bad side effects to Adderall.....grumpy aggression, sad

ask your doc if he thinks a change in meds might help

Everyone is a bit different, and some people have a more difficult time coming down from the meds then others.

There are a few things you could try...
You could try to have him exercise at this time. Exercising releases chemicals that can help calm people down, move the meds out faster, and make the transition a bit smoother.

Sometimes if people aren't eating well during the day, when meds wear off their body is a bit overloaded, and just eating about an hour before meds wear off can help a great deal.

Sometimes it's very helpful if you add in a short acting, low dose pill, that they can take an hour before this time, to make a smoother transition off the meds.

It also, like you said, may be a worth a shot to try another family of medication, since everyone reacts so differently to each medication. You may find something that he doesn't rebound as much from.
