[QUOTE=flashgordon]Hi Everybody,
First post; new to ADD treatment.

The quick version:
- taking a single dose of Adderall XR 8AM
- feeling spaced out and irritable in the evenings
- do I have too much or too little, any recommendations

3) Have Bipolar II diagnosis which is treated, but I am certain the ADD diagnosis is correct and a separate condition Your mood was stable/same dosage for a while before the Adderall was added? Playing med yoyo is uncool with dual diagnosis.
4) Have been taking one dose of Adderall XR 20 mg on awakening (8AM) for 6 days (previously tried a single dose of 10 mg of Dextrostat/dexadrine on three separate days and had positive results that )
5) I suspect that the single morning dose of Adderall XR 20 mg dose is not optimal for the following reasons:
- I feel overfocused and a little withdrawn
eg. not hearing other people when I'm focused on a task
- I feel spaced out (as though I'd had 2-3 glasses of wine); this is primarily in the evenings
e.g. it's taking me a while to vocalise sentences (speaking slowly), easily losing my chain of thought, unobservant, forgetful
It takes a while to learn to work your brain now that it can focus. If you notice behavior/memory/attention changes, you might consider keeping the same dose until the pattern stays the same for a few days - then adjust. It took me a month to actually be able to drive my new brain, since I never had a steering wheel or brakes before.
- I'm getting quite irritable in the evenings, at about 6PM. The irritability increases and then fades by about 12AM
Things to check to reduce rebound: Did you get enough sleep the night before? Did you eat THREE meals? (Your body gets really hungry, even if you aren't.) Same with water. Did you accomplish 800 things in one day just because it was possible? I found that the reason I felt like I got hit by a truck was because the Adderall covered up what I was doing to my body... until it wore off.
I also try and do really low key activities in the evenings. It is the return of mental chaos that makes me irritated, I think, not necessarily the med.
Questions
1) Based on experience, what would you recommend I try (I'm already discussing it with my psychiatrist)?
2) Would three doses of 10 mg Dextrostat be better?
3) What about trying a lower dosage of Adderall XR (10 or 15 mg) or two doses
Thanks so much,
Paul
